If you have anyone in your house with long hair you'll probably find that it has hair wound around the shaft that spins. It's possible to take the whole thing apart & strip it down to the bare shaft & you don't need any tools. Turn the head upside down, and slide the flat clip that is at the back of the underside further backwards to unlock the back of the bottom plate. Then turn the two round latches on the back of the cross-arms of the head about 1/4 turn anti-clockwise, this will unlock the front edges. You should now be able to remove the bottom plate of the head. Once you have the head off, remove any hair and dust you can see, and if you hold the two ends of the beater and twist them gently against each other one way or the other, you will hopefully find that the beater comes loose on the shaft and the two black beater sleeves with the brushes on them can be slid outwards & removed. Once you've taken them out, thoroughly clean them (you can wash them in water) and carefully pull out any hair that is wrapped around the shaft, bearing in mind that some could have gone in under the edge of the plastic part that the shafts poke out of. Once you've got everything as clean as you can (I washed all the pieces of the head) and dried it all off you can put it back together again in the opposite order that you pulled it apart.

I was told by a previous repair man that there is a fuse in the beater bar that needed to be replaced.

Up to my experience in my Panasonic vacuum cleaner, if the beater bar is not working this could be because the 'Carpet/Floor' selector switch is in the 'OFF' or 'FLOOR' position. In both of these positions the beater bar will not rotate. Move the selector switch to the 'CARPET' position. When in this position the beater bar will rotate once the foot pedal is pressed.

If the selector switch is in the 'CARPET' position and the beater bar is still not rotating it could be that there is something entangled in the beater bar, or the belt is worn or broken.

To check this first unplug the vacuum cleaner

Inspect the beater bar and belts to ensure that there is nothing entangled in the beater bar and that the belts are intact and are not excessively worn. If the belts are excessively worn they may slip resulting in the beater bar not rotating.

The vacuum cleaners often have an overload protection system inside the nozzle, which stops the nozzle motor when the beater bar jams to prevent belt breakage. After clearing any lint build up or jamming you may need to reset the overload protection, by pressing the reset button on the top of the floor nozzle.

My XV 11 Vacuum keeps on bringing up the message " My vacuum is stuck"

This message generally means that the beater/brush bar is not turning. Try rotating the beater/brush bar manually to see if it can turn freely. If not, you will need to remove the beater/brush bar and ensure that it is clean; that the orange end caps on the brush are free of hair and dirt, and that the bar housing area is free of obstructions.

Note, when I said "beater/brush", it could be either/or, depending on whether you're using the "standard" beater bar, or the upgraded pet brush.

DC15 - beater bar is not rotating

There is a tiny motor for the bar itself at the side of the bar you will see tiny slits which is the vent for the motor which is most likely burned out and will need a replacement.

I sucked up a piece of fabric and turned it off ASAP. Now the beater bar won't work, but the beater bar does turn. Help!

If the clothe is jammed in the power head you will need to clear it. Have the unit unplugged and manually rotate the beater bar to work the jammed material out. Sometimes a pair of pliers helps to grip the material while turning the beater bar. If there is no longer a jam then the drive belt may have been damaged and needs to be replaced. Usually when this happens the brush does not rotate. You can get a belt often at hardware stores such as ACE, or as a last resort, the dealer.

Change belt on a eureka

With the vacuum unplugged, turn the machine beater side uo. On the plate that surrounds the beater bar, look for release tabs to open the plate. Flip them and set the plate to the side. The beater bar rides in sockets. Remove the bar, install the new belt around the motor shaft, then work the beater back into the sockets. Replace the plate. Test your work by rotating the beater bar by hand, making sure that it is reinstalled correctly.

Vacuum turns on and suction in hose works, beater bar won't turn

If you hear the motor in the head running and the beater bar isn't rotating, you probably need a drive belt. With the power off, make sure you can rotate the beater bar freely by hand, if it isn't bound up.. then locate and remove the baseplate screws to gain access to the beater bar itself, you'll see a drive belt pulley system and chances are, a broken belt. Replace it with a new one by pulling the beater bar assembly out of the housing and plcing the belt onto the motor shaft pulley as well as the beater bar pulley.. nest the beater bar back into the holder and reinstall the cover. Hope that helps !
