It is not the system it is the dvds. If they are burned or have been burned that means you have to get new dvds.........

Will play discs burned from hdd but not commercial movie type dvd

The solution is simple.I rang LG service (so called - LOL)
Asked for a fix or reset method. (Which can be done but they won't tell novices how)
Got no joy, so now I will bin it,and spend the rest of my days telling people to avoid LG.
After all the posts I have since read about the same problem on various LG models,it is obvious their product sucks, they know it does, but won't accept the responsibility.
If I stop 4 people buying their ****,that's at least $1000 they miss out on.
If the process snowballs,how much then$$ ?
It would cost me $120 just to get it to and pick it up from the repair place.
Plus parts and labour added.
Before buying an LG DVD recorder go online and check out how many dissatisfied customers there are. In short, DO NOT BUY !!

Video stream is jumpy .Download and burn movies that freeze up

How much free hard drive space and memory is in the laptop? Are you running anything else while the burn occurs? Have you tried a slower burn speed? DVDs hold more than 4 gigs of data. In addition to burning the video to the disk, the files are being encoded. There is really no practical way to speed this up. Make sure youre not running any memory intensive programs during the burn. 256 megs of memory is feasible, 512 megs or more would be better. Hard drive space--you must have free space on your drive at least double the size of the files youre burning.

My burned dvd will only play for a few minutes then freezes

Hello, this is more than likely the media you're using. The best to use for this are verbatim-r or taiyo yuden-r dvds. Also, could be your burner. Imgburner is the most popular one used which is free

Mysterious "ring" on burned DVD causes playback to freeze.

Is the image preponderantly encoded in PAL? Majority PAL and some NTSC? Or fully NTSC? Used transcoding presets? Transcoded project before you built to DVD? Note: Always run "TEST" before burning (to save plastic trees)? Determined whether system or project is faulty? Tested the DVD drive? Tried burning using another application? Closed all background-running resource hogs and applications? Did the project size increase the capacity size of the disk? Used a lower write speed? Disabled startup items and services? DMA: enabled? Updated Windows? Media compatibility? System requirements attained? Updated your application? Solved the issue(s); then write it down and share it with others. Still having issues? Revert back to the computer's factory settings and rebuild, upgrade, or invest in a high-end system and buy the full version of Nero 9, with all the plug-in features....and so forth. If time is money, the latter solution is your best bet. If money is an issue, then it requires trench warfare - that is, much research, deductive reasoning and time investment to isolate your specific problem...start by analyzing your source, and then your target...cause/effect relationship...you'll conquer all problems, eventually...political machinations aside. DVD deterioration

I would blame it on the DVD player. They are fickle when it comes to playing burned discs. Try playing the disc in your computer. If does the same thing there, the disc is garbage. You can also try burning at a slower speed, sometimes this helps. I would also try to avoid using DL (dual-layer) discs.

Player freezes at same time on almost every disk, and recorder programs won't play on anything else.

The last problem is probably because you have not ?finalized? the DVD yet. Basically what that does is modify how the data is stored on the DVD so that a normal DVD player can read it. It also prevents you from modifying or recording to the disk any more so make sure you?re done before performing this. The part about the freezing is more complex, are these commercially recorded DVDs or something someone else recorded?
