I have a samsung model #HL-R4266W tv, It is making a humming sound, and has no color other than it being in black and white the picture looks fine, what could be the problem?

The tv have a colors wheel.The tv make humming,buzzing motor loud noises or flickering black and white pictures.The colors wheel is dead,require changing,bcause of the colors wheel axsis rubbing on it sides or worn out,than have black & white pictures.Hire a tv tech, to do the job.Because changing the colors wheel is not easy.Require take out many machanicals parts,before even can change the colors wheel it self.

The color wheel is very common problem. Color wheel for this model is about $100 to $150 plus labor.

sounds like the color wheel has failed. probably the only part that has failed. can call 1-800-samsung for nearest service center.

sounds like a the color wheel blown. Call a local tv repair shop. Some Samsung models carry two different color wheels for same model depending on chassis version which can be seen only when the back is removed.

Yes, the Color Wheel would be the only thing left. I am not sure about this exact model but the Color Wheel in other Samsung models are replaceable.

Sounds like the color wheel has shatterd, thats a fairly common problem with that model.

Yes - I believe a person can with moderate technical skill. I think it's called a light engine. Partstore.com is a decent online resource for parts but it looks a little pricey there. You might dig around and see if you can find one cheaper. It also might not hurt to bug Samsung on the phone about this problem to see if they issued any program/ recall or extended service regarding the issue. I don't believe it will damage anything else, and as time wears on, the color wheel will get slower with colors less acurate on the screen or the bad motor will burn out completely leaving you probably stuck on one color similar to a black and white tv. Your DMD board is now misaligned. It can happen when you changed the color wheel. All you have to do is pull up on your DMD board. I would use both hands, one on each corner of the DMD board and just a little at a time until you get it the way you want it. If you have a space at the top, then just push the DMD board down the same way.
