Warm water is an indicator of possiblity of the bottom element is the only one working. The best solution would be to replace them both due to the cost is not to exspensive and the other one will go out if you replace just one. One new element will work the older one harder and it may lats for a little while, but evenually it will be in need of replacement and sinec you are working on it. It would be easy to do them both .

Turn power and water off and connect water hose to bottom of tank to drain water heater. Open a faucet's hot side to break vaccum so it will drain down. Once drained remove the elements by disconnecting electrical wires and remove elements with a 1 1/2 " element wrench or socket.

Replace elements and connect electrical and turn water back on and leave the faucet open to get all air out of system and water flowing from hot side on all fixtures in your house before turning power back on to water heater.

Hope this is helpful with your water heater adventures. Thanks

I went to take a shower this morning and the water was ice cold. For more than twenty minutes the water ran and never warmed up. Are there common things to check my hot water heater for in this situ

There is an adjustment knob to control how hot the water can become. There might be a problem at the tap (however, if this is the case, you would still get hot water everywhere in the house). If the entire house isn't getting hot water, and the knob is set at the hottest water, you probably need to get the hot water tank replaced.

Doesn't always come on with hot water is turned on

Water heaters draw water into the bottom, and as the hot water heats, it rises and hot water exits from the top.
You might want to check each fixture, does the hot pipe (tubing)feel warm when you run it for a moment. Can you get warm water from some of the fixtures, but not others?
I'm bet there is a leak at the top of the intake which is filling from the top down, instead of bottom up.

I have abosch 1600 ps aquastar 4.3 gpm indoor when i turn hot water on it all fires up but no hot water comes out only luke warm water why

Water heater is heating water but only luke warm water arrives at faucet.
Open TP valve and confirm that hot water is available.
If water at TP valve is hot, then problem might be plumbing-related, for example crossover.

Only warm, not hot water from our tap unless I slow the tap down.

Warm water indicates a element is probally in need of replacement. For warm water only more than likely the top element is bad. If you get a burst of hot water for a little while then your bottom one is probally gone bad. Best to replace both elements when changing one out due to not being to exspensive and you have to drain it down anyway.

To change out shut water of and turn power of to water heater open hot side on a faucet to allow heater to drain down so you can change out element.

It sounds like your thermostat on the water heater isn't working properly. try turning it up higher and if this doesn't work I would have a service techy look at it.

I have an Atwood GGA-8E about 6 months old was getting hot water but now the water is only luke warm, any adjustments?

There should be a temperature setting on the gas valve. It should be on top or front and have several settings normally vacation, warm and hot. Rotate dial towards hot setting to increase water temperature. Hope this helps. Thanks

Warm water only

You can eliminate the shower control knob possibility by turning on your hot water anywhere else in the house. If you get hot water in other places, then it could be the knob causing it. A substantial lime buildup in the tank can also cause poor heat transfer from the elements to the water.

Usually when you are having a problem at only one fixture, and not any others it is a sign that you have a faulty fixture. Hope this helps.

WE THOUGHT WE NEEDED ANOTHER THERMOSTAR, BUT WHEN WE WERE LOOKING FOR THE PART THE EMPLOYEE ASKED WHAT WAS THE TROUBLE. WE EXPLAINED, HE SAID YOU DEFINATLY DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR TANK AND ASKED IF WE HAD A SINGLE HANDLED FAUCET WITHIN THE HOUSE. NO WE DONT. HE SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE WATER IS MIXING WITH THE COLD WATER THATS THE REASON FOR THE WARM--COLD--WARM WATER. COME TO FIND OUT SINCE WE ARE REMODLING THE BATHROOM, WE HAD BOTH THE HOT AND COLD WATER TURNED ON IN THE SHOWER--BUT WERE PLUGGED OFF AT THE SHOWER HEAD AND THE FAUCET UNTIL THE TILE IS INSTALLED. SOOO ALL MY HUSBAND HAD TO DO WAS TURN OFF THE WATER IN THE SHOWER. NOW WE HAVE PLENTY OF HOT WATER, NO WARM COLD. YEA!!!
