Question about Heybrook HB3 Speaker

2 Answers

Hi, Ive just purchased a pair of Monacor SP-60/8 speaker units from Wilmslow audio. These have been supplied as direct replacements for the HB3 midrange units. However when I attempted to fit them ,they don't!. There are two problems - although the screwholes are in the right place, the corners of the new units overlap the cutout in the cabinet. I have overcome this one by simply grinding off the corners so that the unit now fits in the cutout but the unit doesn't fully seat down due to a ridge on the steel pressing of the speaker frame. The original units are an alloy casting which is flat where it seats in. It is important tht the unit when fitted should fit in snugly and seal. Any suggestions? Regards Ian

The HB3 is a sealed acoustic suspension type speaker since it has two vented ports (Bass reflex). The speaker should fit snugly without vibration between the cabinet and the speaker body. If you can see big gap would black rubber sheet or something to hide the opening so it will not look so bad just for the look.

Thin rubber sealing strip tube (hollow in the centre thus compressible, lightly glued/ fixed into the rebate and screw the speaker in on top of it. It would have to be thin enough not to interfere with the speaker mechanics, even when it squashes. Maybe a window maker could source something like that? I dont think foam would be rigid enough which is why i suggested rubber.
If you haven't already ground off the corners I'd speak to the supplier with a view to getting the correct replacement, but then presumably you would have done that anyway.

common is a faulty speaker or speaker lead.
unplug the speakers and switch on...that will prove it is the speaker or sp cable..if not then common is the capacitors in the switch mode power supply.

My kenwood headunit is saying protect and i dont know how to reset it and no wires are touching how do i fix this

Hi, this is usually caused by a short in one of the speakers or the speaker wires. Take the connector off the head unit and use an ohmmeter on each pair of speaker wires to check impedance. If impedance is less than 2 ohms on any pair of wires, check the speaker impedance for that pair. If the speaker impedance is low, replace the speaker--otherwise replace the wires. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Connecting 6 pair of speakers (12 total) via one stereo receiver

His receiver has enough power all 6 pairs of speakers, however, he should use a speaker selector switch. Niles is very well built and you can find them with an "on/off" button for each pair, and they have models that will independantly conrol volume as well. (SSVC-6) For a good unit, expect to pay from $250-$400. They will keep the unit at an 8ohm load and not over tax the receivers power supply.
Hope this helps

Kef k160 sp3134 hi i was wondering if speaker parts canbe purchased for these. also i wastrying to figure out whether you access the speakers inside the cabinet. thecabinets are sowellmade it is not easy...

I have a good KEF K160 tower (one speaker) for sale. I purchased the pair and one had a blown woofer. After trying to replace/repair, I purchased a pair of KEF C40s and been happy ever since. The good K160 looks and sounds good. Grill and cabinet in good shape, both black finish. Other speaker cabinet is in poor condition. I'll sell the single (or both if you want to pay shipping) for $75. (Plus shipping, around $50 USA ground delivery) These are hard to find.
