Open Question

Hi! I have a hard drive: hitachi deskstar hdt722516dlat80. It was in an asus wl700-ge router but the router is not working anymore, so I try to read the disc on my PC OS win7 ultimate with an IDE to USB cable. As I know the file system what was use in Asus is Linux, so I install driver for linux file systems, but the data on the drive was not reachable. The jumper of the drive is settled to 16 head master drive. Please help to read the data on the disc because it is very important to get them! Thanks in advance! István from Hungary

SOURCE: HDD not recognised

HI Your Hard Drive is previously formatted and have done different partition provided by your previous machine where you took this hard drive from. Use "The Partition Magic" Software, it will help you to fix and repartition your hard drive in the new format. I have this problem before and now my hard drive can connect with any computer. The key in this issue is any hard drive goes with the original machine has been formatted and do its own partition from manufacturer so if you take it out later for use with other machine, you will need a software to completely rearrange the new partition in universal format so other computers can recognize it. This manufacturer purpose to protect your data from hacking, stealing once you take it out from the original machine. That is why when you connect it to other machine, this hard drive will not be recognized. I has this partition magic software and can make you a copy so you don't have to buy it. Just read the instruction and you can fix it for both 2.5" and 3.5" HD. Please email me at joe_dao2003@yahoo.com and provide me your mailing address, I can send the copy software to you. Regards, pingping

SOURCE: I have a Hitachi DeskStar T7K250 - hard drive -

This is typically a corrupt mass storage driver in windows. You can try removing C:\windows\driver cache (may be c:\windows\system32\drivercache too.

Then reboot; and see how it works. This resolves most of of the issues. http://techrxgb.com (please join us on facebook for hints / tips and tricks)

The short answer is the drive is having trouble calibrating itself, and should be sent back under warranty for replacement.
There are things you could try to recover the unit, but why risk voiding the warranty only to wind up with a questionable drive afterward?

I feel for you! It's awful losing your photos. You need to find someone with a caddy or Pata or Sata to USB adapter. Your particular drive could be either as that model is available in Pata or Sata, HDT722525DLAT80 or HDT722516DLAT8 are Parallel ATA HDT722525DLA380 or HDT722516DLA380 are Serial ATA, so I don't know which you have
mount the drive on the appropriate adapter or caddy. If you can recognise the drive it may be that your partition and files will be visible, if you can recognise some sort of partition but your files are not there you can then run data recovery software on the drive to try to get your files back. I know this sounds crude but it may well be that the drive is stuck, and a brief mechanical tap as you connect the drive to the power can sometimes free it up long enough to get the files off. Try to ascertain if it's spinning, only try the mechanical shock if it isn't spinning after connection to the power look here http://free-backup.info/data-recovery-software.htm for data recovery software or just google free data recovery software. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I want put my Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 80GB Hard Drive from a t2885 emachines on a HP/Compaq K8N8X-LA mother board without losing my data.

You won't loose your data Why wold you think you would? once data is written to a hard drive it remains there until it is removed be a user, it works on the same principlea a floppy, the magnetic coating on the surface of the anodized disks inside of the HD are written to and retain memory of the data, the only things in a computer that won't keep their data are the RAM chips which need electricity running through them to work.
