You could use the CD supplyed with the router but i prefer using the web interface

DO THE FOLLOWING USING A CABLE NOT WITH WIRELESS CONNECTION
Open Explorer/Firefox then enter the IP address of the router in the URL bar (if unknown and the router is your DHCP server, use IPCONFIG command in a terminal window to find out)
after loging in (user+password) if unknown try default credentials
goto *wireless setup* and the basic things you need to do is entering an SSID (the name windows wil find in wireless connection), try to put something that wont give away your identity or location (a good choice is a word in some other language that you remember)
second is the enchryption level (the worse one is WEP 64 bit), the best is WPA2, WEP uses HEXADECIMAL charactors from 0 to 9 and A to F not hard to snif with good hacking tools, WPA2 uses phrases, for the best security in WPA2 again i recommend a long word you INVENT (not from a dictionnary) ownly you can remember, than if you want bullet proofing you could enable the option to hide the SSID and use MAC filtering so ownly the computers with the MAC address you entered will be able to connect

Hope it help ya

Sir

Checking or verifying the wireless settings of your Linksys Cable Gateway is important when connecting wireless devices to your network. This is the best route to take if you are unsure of your gateway's wireless settings.
The wireless settings that you need to take note of are:
  • SSID
  • SSID Broadcast
  • Wireless Security
To check the wireless settings on the Linksys gateway follow the steps below:
Step 1:
Access the gateway's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here. If you are using a Maccomputer to access the cable gateway's web-based setup page, click here.
Step 2:
Click the Wireless tab.

Step 3:
Look for Wireless Network Name (SSID). It is recommended to change the SSID to something unique.

Step 4:
Click the Wireless Security sub-tab and take note of the current Wireless Encryption Level and the Wireless SSID Broadcast if it is set to Enable or Disable.

If Wireless Encryption Level is set to No Encryption, this means that the wireless security on the gateway is disabled.
If Wireless Encryption Level is set to 64 Bit Encryption or 128 Bit Encryption, check the value under Default Key and take note of the Wireless WEP Key that corresponds to it.

Secure the Linksys. You didn't supply the Model of Linksys? Use the user manual for setup: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT54G

Have a linksys router trying to connect need default password or cisco password

By default, the router has a SSID ID of 'linksys', with *NO* security, and *NO* password. Configure the router to enable security, and to set the SSID and to set a password.

I want to security enable my wireless internet

What you are asking about is called Wep security and is available in your router control panel ("http://" whatever your router is set to) then go to wireless>security and setup a Wep key. You can also go to this web page for more info:

Need key code

hi,
in order to get the secret code or security key,you have to log into linksys router interface.the detailed steps are given below:
1)connect a computer to linksys router using an ethernet cable(hardware connection)
2)open a browser(internet explorer or firefox or safari) and in the address bar type in- 192.168.1.1
3)It will prompt you for a username and password-leave the username blank, and in password field type in- admin(in lowercase)
4)now you should be in router page--click on wireless tab, next you can click on security sub tab which will be below to wireless tab(not the security tab adjacent to wireless)
5)now you should be able to view your security key as wep key or wpa key.
6)close the browser without making any change.

p.s:type the address(192.168.1.1.) in address box ,not in any search box,
thank you.

the security passkey or passphrase will be found on the router user interface. if you are also using a linksys wireless router...you can try this out..

1. open internet explorer...type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar and hit enter.
2. it will ask you for a password, default username and password for a linksys router is username - nothing, password - admin.
3. go to the wireless settings tab and wireless security tab then look for the password.
