As I have read solutions for my door not recognizing/not latching I see there could be several paths to a resolution. When I set my washer it reads the door is not shut. If I press okay it will render several clicks and shut off or just not begin a washing cycle. What is my true issue? How do I successfully repair this problem?

Maytag Neptune MAH6500AWW door will not lock

#1. If the door won't latch, the door lock assembly might be defective. These are normally made of plastic and cannot be repaired. If the door won't latch and the door lock is broken, replace it. Part alone will cost around $110-$125.00 + S&H

#2. If the washer door won't unlock the problem might be the main control board. This is not common. Normally the problem is with the lock mechanism. You do not want it to be this problem. This board is out of stock and runs over $245.00

Door lock

The MAH5500B Neptune does not have the door latch wax motor so you won't have the R11 resistor burnt...

With that said.. Maytag made the door latch assemby one complete assembly meaning that you cannot replace the micro switches, solenoid, etc. On the older door latch assemblies Maytag broke it down to all of the little parts, ie. 12002535 wax motor, etc. I imagine that this was to reduce the part numbers folks would have to store in inventory...

You stated that the door is not locking? Did you pull on it to verify this? or could the door lock indication be not working?
There are 2 microswitches in the door latch assembly, one lights the door locked light and the second actually tells the control board that the door is locked. It is possible that the door is locked but the door locked light does not come on...

It more than likely could be three things.. The door latch assembly, wiring or control board. I would take Neptune apart so you can have access to the door latch asembly See www.neptunewaxmotor.com for step by step photos. Put a volt meter on the solenoid wires and see if you get 120VAC when the door should be locked. If so, then the solenoid coil is probably opened up and you will have the replace the door latch assembly. If 120 VAC is absent then I would check the wiring from the door latch assembly to the control board with an ohmmeter (unplug Neptune to be safe while using ohmmeter) If wire continuity is good then I would suspect the machine control board.

I've had the same problem with a Neptune MAH3000. I replaced the mother board to no avail. I replaced the timer control to no avail. I then replaced the door lock assembly (wax motor, door switch, etc.) and problem solved. Luckily, I had another machine that I could rob parts from.
