How do you remove the impeller to replace the seal kit?

Depending on the pump you have to separate the motor from the housing bust removing the bolts. Once the expelled is exposed, remove the cover and the back end of the motor housing the electrical wiring. You can access the shaft of the motor and hold it in place with a small box wrench. Than spin the expelled off counter clockwise. Replace the melchanical seal and reinstall the impeller. Replace the seal for the housing and reinstall the housing to the motor. Fill the pump with water again and turn the lower back on

This means that your pump seals are bad. They are an inexpensive part to replace luckily, but removing the impeller can be tough. There are a number of different Jacuzzi motor/pumps so be sure to get the right seal kit.

Briefly:
The trick is to stop the shaft from spinning while you loosen the impeller. FYI they don't usually come off easily, the older the pump the harder it is to remove the impeller.
On the rear of the motor there is a slot where you can put a flat screw driver into the back of the shaft to stop it from spinning. Once the impeller is off you can remove the volute (rear housing) and change the seal.

It's always best to remove a door to replace a seal. Lay the door on a hard flat surface so there isn't any twist in it. Remove the old seal and install the new one.

Remove v-clamp from wet end.
Remove diffuser from wet-end using a flat blade screwdriver.
Remove impeller screw by turning clock-wise(this is a reverse threaded screw (some impellers dont have an impeller screw))
Remove back end of motor using a 1/4" hex driver.
Secure rear end of motor shaft by slipping a 7/16" open face wrench into rear electrical compartment
While securing the shaft, turn the impeller counter clockwise until its off.
Remove seal halfs and replace with identical seal.
Reverse to finish the install

Replacing a shaft seal requires some good mechanical ability.
first, always make sure power is off at the breaker before you work.
You'll have to remove the band holding the wet end to the seal plate. Then remove the diffuser covering the impeller. Remove the cover on the back of the motor. You either need a 7/16 open end wrench or a armature tool to hold the motor shaft while you unthread the impeller (if the impeller has a screw in the middle, you will have to remove it by turning clockwise, left hand threads) counterclockwise. You can then pull the carbon part of the seal off of the impeller, make sure to remove all of it including the metal sleeve. You will then have to remove the seal plate and push the ceramic part out from the back. You can then clean and lube the seal plate and install the new ceramic part of the seal, try not to touch the ceramic with your hands if possible. You can then lightly lube the impeller shaft and slide the carbon part of the seal with the carbon facing toward the ceramic as you thread it on. If the seal plate had a copper heat sink, you can either replace it or use a different size seal. (I believe it's a PS-201) Re-install the seal plate, impeller (and screw if applicable) and diffuser. You should now be ready to mate the seal plate to the wet end. Make sure you fill the pump before you try starting it up, especially with a new (dry) seal.

Make sure breaker/power to pump is off. Remove the six bolts holding the wet end to the seal plate. Remove the diffuser to expose the impeller. Remove the screw in the middle of the impeller by turning clockwise (left hand threads). Remove the dust cap at the rear of the motor and use a wrench to hold the shaft while you remove the impeller by turning counterclockwise. Once the impeller is off, remove the four bolts holding the seal plate to the motor. Press the old seal out of the seal plate and clean it thoroughly. Remove the ceramic part of the seal from the impeller and clean it thoroughly as well. Apply a thin coat of lube to the seal plate and impeller where the new seal will go. Remove the new PS1000 shaft seal from the box (being careful not to touch the ceramic or carbon face with your fingers), press the metal part into the seal plate carefully, try not to bend the metal and make sure its completely seated against the seal plate. You can now install the seal plate back onto the motor and secure with four bolts. Press the ceramic part into the impeller, use cardboard or paper between your fingers and the ceramic face. Once you have seated the seal into the impeller, hold the motor shaft and thread the impeller on until snug, then reinstall the stainless screw, remember it is left hand thread so you'll have to turn it counterclockwise. Reinstall the diffuser over the impeller and then install the wet end onto the seal plate using the six bolts, don't overtighten them.

It is a good idea to replace the tank o-ring when taking to pump apart, but if the o-rings are in good condition, just apply a light coat of lube and reuse them.

This is a general guide for replacing a seal, if you have trouble removing the impeller, you may need an impeller wrench and a tool to hold the motor shaft.

Many times a complaint of noises ( grinding or scraping ) can be traced to a cracked impeller in many of the common motor and pump assemblies used today. Sometimes a poor washing complaint is common after this wash impeller has cracked. Remove power first before investigating.


The motor shaft has started to rust and swells out and this swelling cracks the upper impeller. Most times a new seal and impeller kit can cure this complaint but sanding and cleaning of motor shaft is required before replacing the new seals and impellers.
