Leethmsn,

You have a classic Reddy Heater problem. They use an air bleed system to control the fuel pump pressure. When you take the cover off you have changed the air pressure and more importantly the pump pressure. You have a partially clogged air filter and need to replace it and set the pump pressure. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4124129-yearly_maintenance_reddy_heaters which explains the problem and where to get the parts and how to complete the repair.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

We have a ge electric water heater - last night we set a new jug of detergent on top of it over the electric plate on the top of the unit - it had a hole ( small leak) in the bottom - it leaked all night...

You flooded water heater wiring compartment with detergent, and the wires were shorting so you turned off power and cleaned detergent. Now water heater doesn't work.

1) The heat from shorting might have tripped ECO reset button.
Open top cover on water heater, and push in red reset ECO button.
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Jly-022-thermostat2-175.jpg
Be sure to re-install insulation and cover.

Other steps:
2) Turn off power. Remove wire nuts. Cut off copper ends of wire, and re-strip each wire so fresh copper shows. Make sure no detergent is on the copper. Use new wire nuts and twist very tight against copper wire.
3) Cut back burned ground wire. Remove ground screw and clean thoroughly. And then reattach clean copper to ground screw.
4) Turn power back on.

5) If water heater still does not work, then test across top two screws on upper thermostat for correct voltage.

Heater core. where is it located and how do you replace it?

Heater Core REMOVAL & INSTALLATION For the removal of the heater core, which is located inside the heater-A/C unit assembly, first remove the heater-A/C unit assembly from the vehicle as described later in this section. Once the unit has been removed, use the following procedure to extract the heater core:
  1. Place the heater-A/C unit on a suitable work surface.
  2. Locate and remove one retaining nut from the blend-air door pivot shaft.
  3. To remove the top cover from the heater-A/C case, the crank arm must be removed.
  4. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the defroster and panel mode vacuum actuators and position them out of the way.
  5. Remove the 3 heater-A/C unit cover attaching screws, fastened upward at the defroster outlet chamber.
  6. Remove the 2 heater-A/C unit cover attaching screws, fastened upward at the air inlet plenum.
  7. Remove the 11 heater-A/C unit cover attaching screws, fastened downward into the housing. Then lift the cover from the heater-A/C unit.
  8. Remove the old heater core from the case. To install:
  9. Install the new heater core into the heater-A/C unit case in the same position as the old one.
  10. Place the cover onto the case and secure in place with the 11 retaining screws.
  11. Install the 2 heater-A/C unit cover attaching screws in the air inlet plenum.
  12. Install the 3 heater-A/C unit cover attaching screws in the defroster outlet chamber.
  13. Attach the vacuum lines from the defroster and panel mode vacuum actuators to the heater-A/C unit case.
  14. Install the crank arm and the retaining nut on the blend-air door pivot shaft.
  15. Install the heater-A/C unit assembly into the vehicle.

Blowing coil fuse when key is turn on

more than one thing can blow the fuse, unplug the ingtion ciol and the distrubutor and then install a new fuse and turn the key on if the fuse blows then there is still something in the computer system or wiring that is crossed. Next also unplug the ECM itself and see if it still blows the fuse if it doesn't blow the fuse with the key on then plug in the disconnected items one at a time till you find the item thats bad or the wires that have gotton into troble. The oxogen senser heater can be on this circuit and there may be two oxoxgen sensers unplug them both and check that there wires haven't gotton into trobleagainst the exhaust pipes or other hot parts. If it doesn't blow the fuse with the oxogen sensers unplugged plug one in at a time and check fuse It'll run with the oxogen sensers unplugged. The sensers sometimes fail but more often the wire getts against the hot pipe and shorts to the pipe. repair wire and ty off and it may work just like it's supposed to.

Maytag mav7600 agitator works and don't

Look at timer plug on harness for pins that are sticking out from side of timer plug, away from timer. See if they are all in the same amount. Sometimes one can work its way out so it won't make a good contact. Push in to plug if you find one.
