Failing graphics card or chip, try replacing or installing a graphics card and test using this

Posted on Dec 29, 2010

I went to see if this replacement of the video card was doable. I found that I need to disable my chip in the board. Well when I turn the comp on I cannot see anything for the output is not working at all is there another way to install a video card so i can use the computer?

  • graeme ian hunter Dec 30, 2010

Inserting the Video card will automatically disable the onboard graphcs chip, as long as you plug the monitor into the new card of course. If you are getting no video signal on the new card or the chip, then the problem is a little more serious ( assuming the card you put in is a working one).
Even if you did disable the onboard chip... and I'm not sure how you did this... you should still get a signal when the computer is rebooted, as windows will automativcally re-enable the chip driver.

I'm now thinking that it may not be the video, but the CPU or motherboard at fault, can you repost if you get any beeps when you start the computer up?

We have a bang and olufsen beovision 7 40 inch tv. when we try to connect our laptop through vga port the tv appears blank without any display, tried connecting the laptop through dvi port also. The...

First, try setting your monitor refresh rate at 60Hz using a known-working monitor. (The VGA input of the Beovision 7 is recommended for 60Hz refresh rate). If this fails to produce output from the Beovision 7, it is very likely, your video driver's resolution is set too high for the Beovision 7 to display signal. If you are using the Beovision 7 as your primary monitor, first connect a known-working monitor to the computer and reduce the resolution to 1024x768. Once you have changed the resolution, try connecting the Beovision 7. If you get video signal, increase the resolution incrementally until you find the maximum resolution the Beovision 7 will handle.

IF YOU ARE USING THE BEOVISION 7 AS A SECONDARY MONITOR USING EXTENDED DESKTOP, reduce the resolution on Monitor 2 output to 1024x768. If video appears on the Beovision 7 at that resolution, incrementally increase the Monitor 2 resolution until you find the maximum resolution the Beovision 7 will accept as a secondary monitor.

My neighbor has a monitor that won't turn on. When it is turned on, it flashes <monitor going to sleep" That is all it does and we can't get to the desktop to try and correct this.

That means that the montior is not getting a signal from the computer. Have you tried plugging another monitor into the computer. Really the only way to troubleshoot the problem is to hook another monitor to the computer to see if the video card is outputting a signal. If it doesnt work with a known good monitor, you'll know that the monitor is bad.

I have a hp 2009m monitor and it keeps telling me to check video cable.

Possible causes:

1. Bad cable. Use another video cable that you know is good and test with it.

2. Input source on monitor incorrect. Check to make sure you've got it set to the correct input (VGA or HDMI)

3. Unplug/replug the video cable connections at both the monitor and computer...it could be just corrosion or dust.

4. Hook up the monitor to another computer that you know is working. If your monitor then works, then you know that the video output on your computer has failed. You can also test this situation by connecting a known good monitor w/known good cable to your computer to see if you get video.

Hope that's helpful.

The computer was in use when the display cut out. The monitor is fine and the computer turns on but has no display on the monitor

I presume that you tried the monitor on another system to verify function. Try restart after 2 min power down and disconnect and try again, then take another "known good" monitor and try that. If both monitors give no image, video output is suspect. Many motherboards have the video output as part of the board itself, cost prohibitive to replace motherboard.
Sometimes you can plug in a PCI video card and bypass system video.

When i turn it on it says no signal? Does this

The no signal can either be "no signal" or a signal that is out of range. Check first by connecting the monitor to a known good video output (ie another computer). If that works, then the problem is with the source and not the monitor. Sometimes the source computer has its resolution set too high and the monitor will not be able to process that resolution. The no signal message will occur then as well.

No speaker output from television input. Other inputs (DVD, CD) work fine.

Check to make sure you have the TV input connections in the correct
slots. Sometimes there are two possible inputs for a TV. One being a monitor 1 and the other a monitor 2. There could also be speaker select buttons on the receiver that correspond to each.

Also check the TV audio settings to make sure the output connections are sending an audio signal, also known as external speakers.

LG CB553H monitor has power and menu that sais no data. When I connect to a pc there is no display.

Hi,

A monitor display showing "No Data" indicates that either the PC is not sending any usable video signal or the monitor is not capable of displaying the incoming video signal. To determine which is at fault, you would need either a known good second monitor or a known good second PC.

Additionally, it is also possible that neither is at fault and that you simply need to lower down the Screen Resolution and/or the Screen Refresh Rate of the computer's display properties to match the limitation/capability of the monitor. A method of verifying if this is the case is to start the PC in "Safe Mode" by pressing F8 after POST before Windows boot.

Alternately, there are some instances that it is the video cable that is the issue. To verify, you can try wiggling the cable to the connector end that goes to the PC's Video output.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
