The only sound you get with a computer with no external speakers is the onboard speaker which is used to give the bios beeps. If you really want one of these Maplins have them, you plug it into the 4 pin connector near the Fpanel on the motherboard (should be printed on the mobo).

Cant get to play music without headphoes

Most modern computers come with internal speakers already installed, especially laptop computers.
These speakers may be sufficient if you are performing typical computer tasks, but when you play computer games, listen to music or watch movies on your computer, you may want louder and more vibrant sound.
You can achieve this by installing external speakers or headphones. These can be connected to your computer through the speaker or USB ports included on your computer.

Plug in the speakers or headphones.
If the speakers or headphones use a stereo plug, insert the plug into the speaker/headphone port normally located on the side or front of your computer.
This port is often color-coded green. If the equipment is connected using USB, locate a free USB port.
Some external speakers will also need to be plugged into a power outlet in the wall or your surge protector.
This may be all you need to do to get the speakers or headphones to work. If they do not, continue to the next step.
Open the audio settings on your computer.
From the Windows Start menu, open the Control Panel. Here you will find audio and sound settings.
Click the heading to see your sound and audio options.
Choose "Manage audio devices" in Windows 7.

Find your Playback device.
In the Playback tab, you can select your speakers and set them as the default for your system.
If you do not see your speakers or headphones, they have not been installed properly. Disconnect and reconnect them to see if it corrects the problem.

Configure your settings.
Select your device from the list and click "Configure" to test your settings.
You can adjust the volume by using the volume slider on your computer's task bar or using external controls on the speakers or headphones.

No sound is coming out of speakers, but sound drivers are installed

Hello,

It could be that the speaker is not connected properly or it has gone bad. It could also be an outdated sound driver. It's better than you update the sound driver before fixing the hardware part of it. You can use RadarSync to auto-detect the updates and you can use the same software to automatically update them without you downloading anything or something like that from the manufacturer's website.

No sound

Your computer's external speakers are either disconnected or damaged. Let a computer technician repair them or use headphones/external speakers.

Take care!

The sound has stopped working on our GeoSafari LAPTOP No. 8545. Help!

Hi Lisa,
What operating system are you using?
Check that sound is enabled in both the operating system and BIOS.
Check that you have the volume turned up.
If you have an external set of speakers, try plugging them in and see if you get sound. If the external speakers use a power supply, make sure you have the speakers powered and turned on. Computer speakers almost always require power to run the internal amplifier. Computers sound output is so low that regular speakers can not be used. Also, if you have a set of headphones from an iPod or similar device try the headphones. Headphones are sensitive enough to work without power.

Why does my I-mac not recognise both internal and external speakers in the sound preferences, so that I can switch between the two without having to unplug the external speakers from the headphone output.

There is an internal switch inside the actual 3.5 mm headphone/speaker jack. When you have either headphones or speakers plugged in, it automatically switches to external. FYI: Macs are also notorious for getting 'stuck' in this mode (external) and I've had to walk numerous people through the steps to correct this. My Macs are definitely not excluded :) I hope this helps.

Not enough jack

You need to buy an external sound card, without which you will not be able to get much from your speakers. It will not produce surround sound.

The sound card will give you required jacks and will produce real good sound. You may try audigy cards from creative.

Your Majorgeek seems to have been a Minorgeek. When you purchase external speakers to use with your laptop, you must configure your laptop for them. Since your system appears to have worked before you tried to use external speakers, I doubt that you have a problem with your sound device driver. Still,
go to control panel, and check device manager to see if you have any problems. If you have a problem flagged, let me know. If not, click on Hardware and Sound, then on Sound, and see how your laptop speakers are configured. Majorgeek should have turned off your internal laptop speakers and configured them for your external speakers. If they didn't, that likely explains your problem. Configure them and test the sound there.

If you need to use your laptop speakers (say you take your laptop somewhere without your external speakers) you will need to reconfigure your sound to the laptop speakers whenever you need to use them. Let me know if this solved your problem.

Speakers do not work but rearly they will?

What type computer? Vista or XP? I take it you have X-530 speakers?

Go to control panel, and check device manager to see if you have any problems. If not, click on Hardware and Sound, then on Sound, and you will see the "Playback" tab. Highlight "speakers" by clicking on it, then click on "configure" to see how your laptop speakers are configured. If you have a laptop, your internal laptop speakers should be turned off. Configure them for your external speakers and test the sound there. If you need to use your laptop speakers (say you take your laptop somewhere without your external speakers) you will need to reconfigure your sound to the laptop speakers. Let me know if you have further problems--you may need to update your sound driver.

Have you done maintenance on your computer, such as getting rid of unnecessary files and defragmenting the hard drive? If not, go to "applications" in your program files to do so.

Computer speakers work but external speakers do not

Schuttie
hello there!
First Things First:
1) Check if your external Speakers are connected on the external sound card output connector **
2) Check on control panel and multimedia if your sound card (external) is enable, and not MUTED sound. Rise the volume.
3) check cables from Speakers and see if not old or broke.
Good Luck
