Question about Panasonic AG-DVC30 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Open Question

I have a Panasonic AG-DVC30 camcorder, but I cannot dump video to my computer's because my Mac does not read a connection to my camcorder. I plugged another device into the firewire port and my mac reads it, but it does not read my cam. I plugged it into my cousin's mac and his make could not find the dv connection as well. When he plugged his camcorder in it worked. What could be the problem?

SOURCE: Problem with DV output on ag-dvc30

It is possible that you have a faulty firewire port or cable that is sending electricity through one of the pins that is not designed to handle it. If one of the six pins at one end of a cable is bent, for example, it can electrocute whatever is at the other end.

SOURCE: What kind of firewire do

The DV/Firewire cable looks like this:

The smaller one (4-pin) is the camcorder side. In iMovie 08+, make sure you "Import from Camera", not Movies.

Check this Panasonic PV-DV953 DV cable is used to download movies from your PV-DV953 to your computer. Black 4-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable works with PC & Mac: Panasonic_PV-DV953_DV_Cable.

Hope this helps.

Use a firewire cable to connect the camera to the Mac. Nor a USB cable. You will not see an icon on the Mac desktop. If iMovie does not open automatically then open iMovie.

Auto lock not threaded

sounds like the threading mechanism isn't able to completely thread the tape. there may be something obstructing the travel of one of the threading arms that pulls the tape around the head.

Only one channel when using my xlr adapter in AG-DVC30

XLR cables only carry one channel. There is an option in your camera to split into two channels - enable it, or split into two channels in post. To record left and right from the DVX using XLR cables, you'll need one for left, and one for right.

Good luck.

Converting vhs tapes to computer using camcorder

I think it's possible if you change a setting on your camcorder.  Turn your camera on to VCR and then hit the menu button.  Look at 4. AV In/Out Setup and make sure your DV Out is set to ON.  I think this will make it work.  If not, try changing your playback functions.  I think the problem either lies with the fact that the camera is using its RCA connections as outputs instead of inputs, or it's not sending the signal on to the VCR.
Hope this works for you -

My compuetr does not recognize my camera

it could be the camera's firewire port, I have the same problem and I am sure it is coming from this. try checking if if the program recognizes another camera if it does the firewire port on your camera must be broken.
