Question about Canon PIXMA MX860 OFFICE AIO-2.5IN LCD 19.4X17.1X8.9IN All-In-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

Hi - I have a Canon PIXMA MX860 office AIO printer. I am attempting to connect to my MacBook Pro via a wireless router. I have completed all the steps in both the Canon book and the Mac instructions to connect the printer. All passwords for the wireless home network have been added etc.. all good. When connected via USB the printer will work, when I go to print wirelessly the response I get is PRINTER IS OFF LINE from the Canon on screen error messages. What is wrong? Printer is fine. I've turned it all off and on again with no success. The signal strength when I set it up was excellent, both the router and the machine are in the same room 6 ft from each other. It is a Netgear Wireless N router that has all laptops in the house successfully connected. LIZ

My suspicion is that the printer will not be compatible as far as wireless is concerned. You may check your printer if it is wireless capable or not. Wi-fi symbols on your printer will help you determine if that unit is capable of having wireless connection... Consult Canon for this concern...

Try to open from the view list the show printer list ..and in there make a search for the printer if it is not on the list ...and choose it ...
run the printer set-up utility ..and after that it should work if it is connected successfully to the router ..

I have a Canon Pixma MX860. I have it set up to recieve communication via wireless. I has been working great. but all of a suddon when I go to print off my Mac Laptop, it pauses the printer and doesn't...

Cycle the power
If your printer was previously printing via wireless communication but can no longer do so, it may be necessary to cycle the power on the printer and Router / Access Point to restore communication. Before doing this, verify that the computer can communicate with the Router / Access Point.

On the printer, press the On button to power off the printer. Wait about 10 seconds, then press the On button to power the printer back on.

On the Router / Access Point, if there is a power button, press it to turn off the device, then press it again to re-power after waiting for about 10 seconds.* If there is no power button, you may have to disconnect the power cord / AC adapter. Check with the device's user manual.
* Wireless communication of all devices on the wireless network will be lost while you do this.

Can't print wireless from my new canon mx860 printer. Prints fine wired.

I believe you need to reconfigure the wireless settings on the printer. You need to get the same exact wireless settings on your router.

My Canon MX860 always defaults to FAX not PRINT

Use your operating system to choose the printer rather than the driver.
For Windows XP, go Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes. Right click on the printer and choose Set as Default Printer.
