Question about Prestige Portable 320gb Usb 20 IOMEGA 34342 320 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

I just took the hard drive out of the box. I have a laptop operating with Windows 7. Everything worked out fine in the first place. I copied some data on the external drive. Then I took the drive to another macbook. That computer couldn't see it. I followed the instructions in the manual that came with the hard drive, which were to reformat the device to make it work on Mac. I reformated the device on Mac. I copied some other data (ofcourse I lost the previous ones) to bring to the Windows laptop. When I plugged the external device back to my laptop, it simply wouldn't read it. In the startbar, I can see the USB device is detected, but I can't see the drive in My Computer. I also went online for troubleshooting, after restarting my computer with no result. According to a response already posted online, I went to Device Manager > Disk Manager yo check if I can see the IOmega there. The only devices I could see in that menu were: Toshiba MK3259GSX USB device, WDC WD3200BEVT-75ZCT1 ATA Device and WDC WD3200BEVT-75ZCT1 ATA Device. I do not know if any of those is my IOmega external hard drive. How do I make it work?

Does the drive show in Device Manager? Right click on 'My Computer' and select properties, the open device manager.. Navigate down to Disk Drives or Hard Drives, click on the plus sign and see if your drive is listed. If it is, then right click on the drive name and open properties for the drive. Click on the 'Volumes' tab and hit the 'Populate Button'. It may be the disk just needs initialising, then reformatting before you can use it. If it does need initializing, a wizard should appear to guide you through the process!
If this doesn't solve your problem, try using a different USB cable and/or USB ports on your computer, and ensure to unplug all other USB devices other than keyboard & mouse.

HOW CAN I PUT A NEW OS ON MY LAPTOP THAT I PUT A NEW HARD DRIVE IN

You can't copy the operating system from your PC to your laptop. However, you can install a new operating system which is Windows 7 64 Bit which is the same with your PC. You have to have the DVD (Windows 7 Installation Disc), drivers for your laptop, and the DVD for the programs that you want to add to your computer.
Before installing a new OS to your laptop, make sure that you have saved all the important files to an external saving device such as a USB flash drive. You have to make sure that your laptop has all the specs to run Windows 7. Please visit the link below to check the minimum requirements (system) for Windows 7.

Hope this helps.

Lost all data on lap top

The operating system files may have been deleted and the laptop cannot boot up. To get the laptop operating again you can try a Windows Repair, failing that you need to install Windows again.
To do a Windows Automatic System Repair for Windows XP, follow the instructions from this WEB site -

To do a Windows Automatic System Repair for Windows 7, follow the instructions from this WEB site -

To recover your data before you install Windows - remove the hard drive from the laptop and connect it to the USB hard drive adapter then connect it to a working computer's USB port. This computer will see the USB hard drive adapter and hard drive as an external storage device, you can then open the folders and files on the hard drive and copy the data files to the computer and to backup your files.

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

The computer is having trouble finding the hard disk.
The problem could be a faulty hard disk or a faulty disk controller.
First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Is the PC you've used before is the operating system is windows Xp? If you've using windows Xp before then you've plug it in a windows 7 Operating system, it means your hard disc have no problem the operating system of your PC is different than before. Try to plug it in a windows Xp operating system then recover it in there then format it in a windows 7 operating system then, the windows Xp and windows 7 try to make a network place in the connection then share the hard disc files that you've recovered then copy and paste it in the newly format hard drive that formated in a windows 7 operating system.

Get a 'Live CD' off the internet, There are also images you can out on a USB drive. These are complete operating systems. It does not matter what one you get. They will boot up and everything will run fine if the hardware is OK. It will allow you to examine and copy your hard drive also. Just Google for live USB or get the Live USB Windows XP image at http://www.downarchive.com/software/operating/7468-windows-xp-live-usb-edition-2009.html. You can scan the drive for errors and copy off your documents. If the hard drive has errors you can use SpinRight to temporarly repair the errors, it works most of the time very well.

Laptop hard drive

Hi,
If you have reinstalled windows, on this hardrive using a different computer, it would not load into windows on the nortino 6770, because the windows now has the settings compatible with the other computer not this machine.
To get around this problem, you would have to reinstall windows, by placing the haddrive in the 6770 only. To do this , you can either copy the contents of the windows cd , to a flash drive or pen drive ,and then connect the same to the USB port of the laptop.
The other way , is connect an external USB cd drive and install the same.

Best of luck
