Question about Zonet ZEW2500P 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

My ZEW2508 wireless adapter seems to steal focus from other active programs. It seems to happen when the signal strength changes from normal to good or vice versa. For example, if I am in Word, suddenly Word is no longer the active program, and typing is futile until I click back into Word.

In regards to your wireless adapter it can not directly effect your computers preformance. However it can slow down the computer in regards to Internet application trying to send data back and forth. So if a program is waiting on data and your wireless signal changes this can effect your data speed which in time can slow down the computer because it is processing more data or waiting on data to process.

If you are only running Word then you could have a Windows issue with your computer or even a virus/malware on your computer.

I would recommend going to this link and doing a full scan on your computer to make sure there is not any unwanted programs on your computer phoning home. Note after you down load and run the applet you will need to click on settings to do a full scan on your computer.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

I am experiencing a conflict between my wireless adapter and my wireless keyboard.

if your keyboard is acting erratically and it only happens when your wireless router is on, try changing the channel you are broadcasting your wifi signal on. In the US, there are 3 main channels that are typically used to avoid interference from the other 2. 1, 6 and 11. This will be changeable on your wireless router and without knowing what model you have I can't give you instructions.

However, if this only happens when your USB adapter is in, but wasn't happening before even with your wireless router on, then you may have some strange RF interference coming from it. Try to make sure you have your adapter as far away from your keyboard and receiver as possible.

My wireless adapter says i have a good connection, but when I go to play games online my signal strength changes so much it makes the game glitch

Whats going on is that your signal strength from the router is good but when playing a game the green bars that you see are not that of the signal strength but that of the internet Speed. Seems the signal is there but the internet speed is not I would restart modem and router see if this helps boost speed you can always check speeds at speedtest.net to be sure you are getting what you are paying for.

I Installed the software for the Zonet ZEW2508 on my laptop with windows xp home.. Now what? (I have an operating wireless router already)

Ignore the software and use the built-in wireless utility that comes with Windows to configure your network. There should be a small icon by the clock that looks like a radio antenna with waves, right-click it and select to 'View Available Wireless Networks'. The rest is self-explanatory.
If the Windows utility states that it is not managing your wireless networks, you'll need to disable the Zonet utility first. If you need help with that, let me know.
Good Luck!

ADAPTER not working

Check the distance bet computer and the Router.
Donot keep your router near television, microwaveoven or any radio active devces, it may reduce the performance.
Check the Antena terminals for any loose connections.
If possible check your wireless signal strength with another Laptop, to diagnose the router is working fine.
If everything seems to be fine, it maybe the issue with the Adapter.

There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.
1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up.
2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? Ie. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router.
3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arid welders, washing machines etc. If so the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply)
4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

I can not connect to the internet but it still has strong signal strength. It will only connect to the internet when I am right next to the router. Why is this happening and what should I do?

One thing to keep in mind is that there are several different router/adapter models, types, and signal strengths. If your house/apartment is older, it may have poor wire insulation. This would create large electromagnetic interference for your wireless signal. This can also happen with large appliances such as a refridgerator or generator. Wireless also has diminished returns when passing through concrete or walls made with thick/heavy material.

You may try moving the router to a different, more central portion of your residence to see if the signal improves in all areas. Try to determine which direction, from the router, it tends to have the lowest signal strength and determine what may be causing the loss of signal strength.

Aside from that, if possible test with a different router/wireless adapter. You can accomplish this by having a friend visit you with their laptop or visiting a friend's wireless network and seeing if you have the same problem. The later of that advice applies to wireless hot spots like Starbucks or McDonalds/Dairy Queen.
