Question about Leapster Learning System

Open Question

I've downloaded leapster explorer. Turned off and on, but still can't get it to connect to my computer. I've tried everything. 1. In order for your handheld to communicate with your computer, the customer must have the LeapFrog Connect application for the Leapster Explorer handheld installed. Click Here for Application: 2. Please launch the LeapFrog Connect Application and wait for all updates to be downloaded to the system before connecting the Leapster Explorer to the computer. 3. Turn on the Leapster Explorer prior to connecting it to the computer. 4. Try connecting your device to other available USB ports. If devices other than your keyboard and mouse are connected to other USB ports (especially external hard drives or thumb drives), remove these devices and try connecting again. 5. Do you have a firewall? You may need to update your firewall settings to allow the LeapFrog Connect application to communicate with the Leapster Explorer handheld. Click Here for more information: If the above 5 steps do not work, please do the following: 1. Launch the LeapFrog Connect application. You may be prompted to accept an update. If so, accept this update and wait for LeapFrog Connect to finish downloading the updates (the status bar will stop displaying ?Downloading Leapster Explorer updates??) 2. While the Leapster Explorer is in the OFF state, hold the Left shoulder, Right shoulder, and Hint(?) button 3. While pressing all 3 buttons, power on the Leapster Explorer 4. The device will show a ?Tune Up? screen which shows a Leapster Explorer, a computer, and a USB cable between the two, the Leapster Explorer shown will have a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it. Do not proceed until the device shows this screen. 5. While the device is showing the ?Tune up? screen, connect the Leapster Explorer to the computer. 6. LeapFrog Connect will automatically start installing the latest firmware to the Leapster Explorer, showing a progress bar on the computers screen. 7. If all goes well, the firmware will successfully install and reconnect to the computer when finished. 8. When finished, the progress bar will go away and the Leapster Explorer will be connected (showing the eject button). If you need further assistance, please let us know.

SOURCE: My grandson's leapster explorer displayed

Seems that the console has experienced corruption on the unit, If the reformatting did not do anything to fix the problem then something is wrong with the unit, How long did your grandson have the unit? if it still in warranty better contact Leapfrog for further info possible they can have the unit serviced or replaced with the issue.
Leapfrog contact service
Troubleshooting guides
After checking most anything related to the issue it shows that the unit is most likely a lemon as they say busted, seems something has failed in the unit that may have caused it to malfunction, or it is possible that when it asked to be connected to the computer and when the updates was done possible it may have downloaded a corrupted file that can be a cause of the failure.
Call Leapfrog so they can check what happened during the download.
Here are Error Messages see the list and see more info what could have caused the issue.
Unless there is another way of resetting the unit

Why cant my leapster explorer connect to my pc

Unless you already have downloaded the software, you must load the software for leapster ,if it came with no disk do a search for leapster software download instructions . If that is not the case it may have to run through a different program such as flashplayer or something of that nature?

I gave my son a leapster explorer about a month now and it's volume just stopped working and it wont hear anything.

there are three basic reasons why the leapster explorer won't bring out sound.
1. Defective speaker
The speaker of your leapster explorer maybe defective, this can make it not bring out any sound. Disassemble the leapster explorer, check the speaker part, test the speaker with a AA battery. If you hear any sound using the battery, then it means there is nothing wrong with the speaker.
2. Loose wire connection
Disassemble the leapster explorer, check the wires connecting the speaker to the board. Check for any wire cut, or loose connection which can cause the speaker not to bring out sound. . 3. Sound IC/Card/Board
If non of the above is the cause of the problem, then it means the leapster explorer is having a defective sound ic/board/card. There is an IC on the board of the leapster explorer which is responsible for sound. If this ic has a shot, there won't be any sound. If this be the cause, I think it's high time to took the leapster explorer to a repairman because this requires skill.
I hope the above is clear. If not, please let me know for further assistance.

There was a problem when I downloaded my free game onto my brand new leapster - and now I don't have it on my leapster and I can't choose it again to download

Instead of 1 starter game and a few demo game that you get from Leapfrog Connect, you can also get more downloadable games for your Leapster 2. You can get it here:
But you have to make sure your Leapster 2 have SD Card and your Leapster 2 can connect to PC using Leapfrog connect. Try to uninstall and re-install the LeapFrog Connect and wait until it finish configuring and updated the software both on the PC and the console, It may takes 10-20 mins for it to complete updating.

One more thing, you have to make sure that you get latest LeapFrog Connect software from LeapFrog website instead of installing it from supplied CD.

Screen calibration doesn't work on Leapster 2. Touchscreen doesn't function properly. Used calibration technique and it still wont work. New Leapster, purchased at Christmas.

CALIBRATION - summary of hints from here that eventually got our circa 2007 green leapster's screen recalibrated - in no particular order: 1) "home+hint+B" to get started, 2) "A" button next, 3) cleaned dirt from the gap between the plastic and the screen all the way around with a toothpick (seemed to be the KEY ELEMENT to get everything else to work), 4) be patient and keep trying until you see the targets - the first one should appear in the top left corner while the text is still on the screen, 5) if it doesn't work just right the first time try again, 6) unit should beep each time you press a target center.
