Sony Location Free LF-X1 base unit will not turn on wireless mode; no led lights green or blue, and not even after employing reset function. I need someone who KNOWS how to test and fix this unit please. Tried Sony Laredo service center and they are a total no-no....don't wast your time with them.

Antone KNOW the Sony Location Free LF-X1 product? When the Wireless led is not lit, there is no way to control the functions of the base station, because no wireless transmit/receive is active. I am looking for someone who has experience of fixing these units. I have two, one works, the other is not. A third one went to Sony Laredo service and they "lost it". !!!!

  • chris_venn Jan 09, 2011

Do you know of anyone who has spare parts or firmware to fix these units? My guess is it needs to be re-flashed or the motherboard repaired/replaced. Sony has abandoned its customers on this product.

If you have no lights at all then you have a blown fuse, or the power supply is dead, and needs replaced.

It is possible the the processor has some garbage in it, and if you leave the unit unplugged from the wall for 40 MIN. it will reset back to normal. If that did not work then it will have to be repair, damage processor.

Hey i have a location free monitor that was working flawlessly ythen for some reason i turned it on and the calibration was wwwaaayyyy outta wack. its so far off that i cant get to the settings to fix it....

Don't know how far off you are, but if you can get on the web with it, there might be hope, The following took me 30 minutes to achieved, with all the mistakes between selecting and refreshes. I mostly used the scroll bar to place the screen were i could more or less select.
Hi, I own a Sony Locationfree LF-X1 system with the LF-X1M (monitor).
My Touchscreen Stylus Calibration was so far off the map. it was very hard to use, Only Half the Screen height could be affected.
I finally attempted to reinstall the firmware update and a message during step 2 said I did not need it because it was already present. Tried it twice with same results. But Good News, It ressetted My calibration in the process.
My screen is now calibrated again.

As stated on the site
IMPORTANT: This update can only be downloaded and installed with a LocationFree® unit.

PS. It is very hard to define were to press to do anything on Sony support site, I was for the most part off by 2 inches,
You will often Have to scroll to the bottom of the page
I managed to select:

Software Drivers
Option 1 (I managed to select Canada, Then it reloaded th page
Then I Selected LF-X1)
Then hit Continue ( Not Easy )

Then got transferred to the download page, Agreed to conditions and finally reached the updating step screen as stated above.

It worked for me
Good Luck

The bluetooth turns on using FN + F11 it should turn the wireless too but doesn't MSI U100

As per the manual the FN and F11 keys turn on both Bluetooth and Wireless so you need to try it will turn bluetooth and then it will turn on wireless, you can check them by LEDS

Press and hold the Fn button, and then press the F11 button
repeatedly to enable or disable the Wireless LAN or Bluetooth function
recurrently.

Wireless LAN and Bluetooth:
Wireless LAN LED indicator glows green when Wireless LAN function is
enabled.
Bluetooth LED indicator glows blue when Bluetooth function is enabled.
Both LED indicators glow green and blue at the same time when both
functions are enabled.
Both LED indicators go out when both functions are disabled.
Note: For flight safety consideration, make sure these two LED indicators
go out when you are in flight.

Let me know if you are able to turn the wireless on

Also i will suggest you check in device manager that you wireless adapter is enabled

Scanner light should come on at power up. Found ribbon cable connecting scanner unit to base had come unplugged from socket on circuit board. The ribbon cable is one of three found near back hinge of scanner and is hidden underneath the other two. It should drape over the edge of circuit board and then plug into small recepticle on inner side of board. I plugged it in and printer works again. Hope this helps.

ok now i see, the way i see it is that you can put an IP address on the lf-X1 and by then configure it wirelessly on your mac? right, id there a utility by any chance that you can install on your mac so that it will see the sony base station? they should have the same segment for them to communicate still. actually you should create one by using a utility that came with sony, or you can check the IP adrdress of your mac so that you can assign one to sony station.

but here's what, check this link. this will help you set it up: click HERE

pls rate solution, thanks!

The following procedure will re-establish the communication link between the Headphones and the Wireless adapter, this is called "pairing". Before you start please make sure both the headphones and the wireless adapter are fully charged and turned off.
Note: The headphones and the wireless adapter come pre-paired from the factory.
1. Press and hold the power button on the headphones. See Figure 1.
headphone.jpg
Figure 1

2. Continue to hold the button down until the LED starts flashing red/blue in an alternating pattern. Release the button when the LED starts flashing red/blue. See Figure 2.
headphone-flash.gif
Figure 2
3. Once the headphones LED is flashing red/blue, press and hold the power button on the wireless adapter. See Figure 3.
receiver.jpg
Figure 3
4. Hold down the button until the LED starts flashing red/blue in an alternating patter. The LED will blink blue, then turn off for a few seconds then blink red/blue. Release the button when the LED starts flashing red/blue. See Figure 4.
receiver-flash.gif
Figure 4
5. Once both the headphones LED and the adapter LED is blinking red/blue, press the volume up button once on the headphones. See Figure 5.
headphone-volumeup.jpg
Figure 5
Once the headphones is paired with the adapter, the LED on the headphones will blink blue once every two seconds. See Figure 6.
headphone-flash2.gif
Figure 6
When the adapter is paired the LED will be solid blue. See Figure 7.
receiversolid.jpg
Figure 7
The adapter may continue to blink red/blue for a few seconds even after the headphones LED starting blinking blue. This is normal; the adapter may take a few additional seconds before the LED turn solid blue.
Once the headphones and the adapter are paired, it is not necessary to pair them again even if the batteries on both units are completely drained.
Additional Note: Repeated pairing will not improve the sound quality or give the headphones and the adapter a cleaner connection.
