Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 Digital Camera

3 Answers

Hi.my daughter's Panasonic DMC-FZ7 has gone dark through the view-finder, and all the photos and videos that she tries to shoot are likewise totally black. While photographing yesterday, she paused to gently clean the lens. All photos since then have been black. The camera records taking a photo but shows a black screen on play-back.Changing to a fresh battery makes no difference, neither does using a flash. Can you give any guidance about what is likely to be the problem, and what we should do about it? Regards,Roger

Hi.Thanks, but your comment does not seem to apply. The lens moves freely when camera is switched on, and the zoom operates freely but the view-finder stays black. If we press the shutter, the camera behaves as if it is recording a photo, yet only a black frame shows when we review the photo taken. We can stack up a row of black photos like that and review/ delete them. When all those are deleted, we arrive back at the last photo that was taken prior to the malfunction.

I think the first expert's comments are not applicable as the camera still has a free-moving lense, including the zoom function. When the shutter is pressed the camera acts as if a photo has been recorded but there is no picture. On review, there is no picture until we get back to the last photo taken before the camera failed. It's as if there is a failed photo sensor or the like.

Hi.The second advice I just received-a failed LCD-is obviously not right, as we are still able to review photos on-screen from before the camera failed.

Hi.The second advice I just received-a failed LCD-is obviously not right, as we are still able to review photos on-screen from before the camera failed. The camera exhibits a complete insensitivity to light-neither the screen nor the view-finder give any picture and there is nothing registering on the histogram.

Hi, thanks for your advice.Checking the lens as you advised showed there was no problem there.Mysteriously, when I turned on the camera to check it yet again, there was a clear picture on the screen and it is now taking photos again! Not sure what has changed, but my daughter is very happy again with her camera!

Hi,
There are two possible reasons for that problem, either aperture got stuck OR ccd imager chip is bad.
You can check aperture function easily, turn On camera while looking closely in lens, please observe aperture should open like an Eye, turn Off camera, aperture will close/ shut.
If aperture is working located in center of lens mechanism then ccd imager chip is defective. In both cases, camera will take apart by professional to get it fixed.
However, if aperture is stuck, try tapping/ slapping camera bottom with your palm gently so it might release jammed aperture mechanism inside lens mechanism.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

It doesn't make sense that the camera would have a problem, unless she cleaned the lens while it was extended. There are tiny gears in the lens and shutter assembly, and they can get jammed, stripped, or broken with excessive pressure. Not an easy or cheap fix, but there are some things you can try to get it working, in case it's not in warranty. If in warranty, have it serviced, although they have reservations on conditions and terms. You can try to gently move the lens while turning the camera on, and off, and back on. Hopefully, that will release a jam in the shutter assembly.
Also, since dust can jam the gears, you can blow it out with compressed air ($4 at WalMart).
Otherwise, take it into a camera repair shop, and get an estimate, or contact Panasonsic support:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

The date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every picture in its EXIF metadata. Any photo viewing/editing program should be able to display this data. To print this data, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your pictures. Depending on the program and printer you may print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

How do i delete photos from my Lumix camera

For one pic at a time, bring up the pic you want to delete and press the button with the trash can icon. Follow the on-screen instructions. To delete all pictures at once, just go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions.

Delete & double pictures

you probably have the burst on. I have done this lots of times. before you get ready to take your shot, push the delete button until the multi-burst icon goes away. this will be represented by what looks like stacked boxes followed by either an H, an L, or a sideways 8 (or infinity symbol). that should solve your taking 2 pictures at once thing.

Check the WHITE BALANCE settings and the COLOR EFFECTS settings (marked as W. BALANCE and COL. EFFECTS when MENU is pressed).

When you got to the MENU setting, press up or down arrow until you reached either selection, press the left arrow, and you'll see several options under the selected function. In WHITE BALANCE, there's an option whether you'll be shooting under sunny or cloudy skies, tungsten or flourescent lighting, and an option to select Auto or Manually set White Balance. This affects the over all color tone as it compensates the color correction depending on your shooting conditions. Fluorescent lighting for example exhibits blue spectrum, thus setting White Balance to FLUORESCENT will add warm or yellow tones to the photo. Tungsten lighting and sunny conditions exhibits yellow lighting, and setting to the White Balance on this mode will add cool or bluish tone to the picture.

Same with COLOR EFFECTS: settings include WARM, COOL, SEPIA or BLACK AND WHITE (gray scale).

Chances are, you have accidentally set the WHITE BALANCE or COLOR EFFECTS to any of these. To see if this is the problem, try shooting under SIMPLE MODE (Marked with a HEART icon at the rotary dial on top right of the DMC-FZ7). If the problem goes away, then it is with the WHITE BALANCE and the COLOR EFFECTS settings. Try setting the COLOR EFFECTS to "OFF", and the WHITE BALANCE to "AUTO".

If all else fails, then you got a problem with the image sensor of your Panasonic DMC-FZ7 Digicam
