Question about Car Amplifiers

L994 toyota camry radio amp

Mechanic told me that the radio amp was burned out (apparently under the shotgun seat) which was what was shorting out several fuses and causing several other lights not to work.

This diagnosis was followed by my discovery of a chewed up bag of chips in my trunk. Mouse perhaps the troublemaker?

Where should I proceed to go to fix my problem? Do you think the radio is toast now? Just the amp? Wire that could be repaired?

Thank you for your time.

If mouse, possibly a fix. need to check all wires and make sure no copper is touching each other. if there is copper to copper contact, need electrical tape and wrap all wires to keep them separated. will take a long time but worth saving money.

Try this look under ur dash see a black and white fiber optic connector going to a box that's your amp disconnected and if u can't get it to work from there after wiring it up. Then u need to run wires to all the speakers manually 11_4_2013_1_17_24_am.png

Radio quit, no sound no LCD display no clock display, antenna doesn't raise

Sounds like the 12v constant wire is dead, usually the yellow wire connected to the radio. Check for correct voltages.

I did install my amp on the back of my back seats. When the seat is down the amp dont work. then the seat is up the amp work! ground ?

Definitely check your wires, you don't want a short under the seats as it can also result in a fire. Also, if the amp is completely covered and there is no air circulation it will overheat and shut off. Make sure it's well ventilated.

Diamond amp

One of the reasons could be a short which could force amp to go into safe mode which just displays red light, However is no lighting is apparent on the AMP, Then it may be due to AMP Power wire fuse has blown/shorted Or the Wiring for radio is loose and needs inspecting.

1998 Toyota Camry Le Wiring Diagram. i want to hook a subwoofer with stock stereo. Need to know what to use so it will power off when car is turned off.

Hello motoxbear17,

You do not specify what particular amp or powered subwoofer you intend to install, so I'm assuming that you have an amp that uses a remote 12V+ signal to turn the amp on and off. Some powered subwoofer systems like the Bazookas, Infinity Basslink, and MTX Thunderlink use an "audio sensing" circuit that turns the sub on only when the radio is on. Some amps also have such a "turn-on" circuit that is active when speaker level inputs are used. I'd recommend that you check the documentation that came with your amp and see if it has such a feature.

For a normal subwoofer amp with power, ground, and remote terminals, the remote terminal usually just needs a 12V+ source to turn the amp on.

In your vehicle, the gray wire coming from the receiver harness is a 12V+ switched source.

Here's a link to the '98 Camry wiring color code:

http://www.modifiedlife.com/car-stereo-radio-wiring-diagram-1998-toyota-camry/

With this connection, the amp will power on whenever the vehicle ignition is on or in accessory, regardless of whether the radio is on or off. If this is objectionable, you can simply add a SPST toggle switch inline with the lead and turn it on only when needed.

Hope this helps.

Amp is shutting off after 10 min of driving!! please help!!

Does it happen at all volume levels?
What is the gain setting on the sub amp?
Have you checked for 12V @ remote turn on after problem occurs?
Sounds as if the remote turn on relay inside the amplifier is losing signal, or has become damaged. If the protection light does not light up, the problem is not thermal, shorting, or high/low voltage.
The amplifier is in need of repair. This is not an end-user fix. Looking at about $50 to repair.

Thanks for using FixYa- a FixYa rating is appreciated!!

Toyota camry 1993 model- fujitsu car radio

You are going to have to remove the center console, remove the screws, this should make the dash screws visible. Remove those. You'll have bolts on the bottom of your dash, below your steering wheel. Remove those. There'll be screws underneath that remove them. You should have clips all the way across your dash. You'll have to probably remove any knobs on your dash. But your whole left side dash will have to be removed. If you are uncomfortable with this; please consult car audio dealer for help. Once you have your dash removed, unclip your wires running to your dash lights. You should be able to pry the center of your dash off now. Find the screws holding your radio in. Now you should be able to replace your radio. Let me know if you have any further issues...

LED turns on, but power light doesnt and there is no sound coming out of it.

it sounds to me like you have a bad ground or a short in the ground wire. try checking the ground cable as well as theremote wire (blue), and make sure the ground is connected to an unpainted, clean surface such as the frame of your car.
