Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I'm having a Convergence code come up. I have replaced the IC's and the 2.2 resistors. The TV comes on for a second with picture and shuts of again. Before I changed the IC's and resistors, The TV would come on and stay on for a little bit and then it would shut off and give a Convergence code. Then I could unplug it and plug it back in and it would do the same thing. Also, I had my laptop hooked up to it and if I had a movie playing through Windows Media Player or on Netflix, it would stay on. But the moment that cable or anything else from the internet came on, it would shut off. Now it will only come on for a second or two and then shut off with the Convergence Code (3 blinks).

Is that for a rear projection TV? This was my first post and I posted in the wrong area.

  • Charles Duncan Dec 29, 2010

This is for a Panasonic PT-53wx53g Rear Projection TV.

  • Charles Duncan Dec 29, 2010

This is a Panasonic PT-53wx53g HDTV. I've already replaced the IC's and 2.2 resistors and it is coming on and then cutting off after a second or two. I've also tried the unplugging it for 40 minutes and that didn't work either.

  • Charles Duncan Dec 30, 2010

    It's a Panasonic PT-53wx53g HDTV

  • Charles Duncan Dec 30, 2010

Yes. They all appear to be functional and within tolerance.

  • Charles Duncan Dec 30, 2010

Yes. I applied an appropriate coating of thermal grease.

  • Charles Duncan Dec 30, 2010

Before I did the convergence repair, I could turn the TV on and it would play for a few minutes and then shut off. But when I played Divx movies from my laptop or a laptop movie it would continue to play well. But as soon as I played anything else, whether it was cable, xbox or DVD, it would shut off and give the convergence code.

3 blinks is not a convergence error. On most Mitsubishi sets I have seen this is a short protect error. Can you please get me the model number of the tv so that I can tell you the location of the shorted component?

Sai.

Ok. In that case it is a convergence error. It is always recommended to test all the resistors in the circuit correspond to the two ICs. I see about 12 of them. Did you test them all?

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Dec 30, 2010

What about thermal grease? These ICs are very heat sensitive and should not be replaced without applying thermal grease on them first.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Dec 30, 2010

Ok. That calls for more comprehensive testing. Do you have the service manual, or should I give you the one I have?

  • eagle338

Mail sent with the service manual as the attachment. I have also given instructions on browsing through the service manual.

Try leaving your TV unplugged for 40 MIN.,that will reset the processors back to normal., if that don't work, then change the electrolytics on the convergence board , they go bad too.

Mitsubishi ws65713 picture goes out

I know these sets well, you lose brightness but still have sound?

If the green power light comes on for a few seconds and then goes out the set has a self check for error codes:

UNPLUG TV AND THEN PLUG BACK IN---TURN ON---GREEN POWER LIGHT COMES ON FOR A MOMENT AND GOES OFF.

PRESS AND HOLD "device"(input) and "menu" buttons on front of tv for at least 5 seconds and then release both together.

Watch for power light to blink in a sequence:

1 blink-then 2 blinks-------no error

2 blink-then 1 blink-------X-ray protection

2 blink-then 2 blink-------SHORT PROTECTION*******

2 blink-then 3 blink---------deflection circuit problem

2 blink-then 4 blink---------vertical circuit problem

******2, then 2 is most common---usually means one of the fuses that protect the Convergence IC or IC's is blown---set will detect no voltage to convergence IC and shut down.

SET WILL REPEAT BLINK ERROR CODE UP TO 5 TIMES AND THEN TO GET IT TO REPEAT MORE YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG SET AND TRY TO TURN ON AGAIN.

IF IT IS 2 AND THEN 2---USUALLY
CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT PROBLEM

let me know what you find--hope that you find 2 blinks, a pause and two blinks--this is the most common and easiest to fix.

TV turned off and now the power light blinks three times

Very common problem. 3 blinks means the convergence circuit has failed . Heres a link to the repair kit for your model which contains both convergence IC and the feed resistors and the kit has step by step instructions with pictures so you can easially do the repair yourself.

I need to identify the parameters (rating) of a resistor for a Panasonic PT53WX53G projector big screen tv. It got hot so I can not see the color codes on it. This resistor glows red when TV is turned...

The resistor you see is a 2.2 ohm 2 watt resistor and is part of the convergence circuitry. I would replace R7011. 7012, 7013, 7014, 7015 & 7016 (all the same value) and the 2 STK392-110 Convergence ICs. This should fix your problem. You can find kits on-line for around $45 with the IC's and resistors together.

Magnavox 55'' Projection - Sides come in and out

sounds like Convergence issue.... I have some pictures of the bowing picture TV on the link below...

I'll post you my general message which is for a similar Philips Magnavox 51 inch TV, you'll need to check the manual verify the correct IC convergence chips and resistors, the manual link is below as well... usally the IC's are STK392-120's or 150's and the resistors are 6.8 ohm 12 of then...

anyway read the general post below it will get you headed in the right direction.

51MP392H/17

Actually I have this TV and you need 2 Convergence IC's STK392-120's (120's and 150's will work) of course order 2 of the same type I'm using replacement 150's they allow for a little higher heat and were cheaper ALSO you need to replace the 12 resistors with 6.8 ohm metal film resistors, make sure they are metal film! don’t skimp out here I did and then they blew and fried my IC's and I had to replace everything again!

Great reference link that I posted
pictures on, check out page 3
http://www.techlore.com/forum/thread/16736/Magnavox-51MP392H-17-51-quot--TV-has-double-vision/

Where I got my parts that worked:
Suburban Electronics
http://www.suburban-elect.com/
Manual Library you should find all you need here:
http://www.techlore.com/group/2/list_downloads

What you need:
(2) STK392-120 OR STK392-150 IC
chips
(12) 6.8 Ohm Metal Film resistors
set of star screw drivers
15 watt pencil solder pencil, DO NOT use a high watt iron you will fry the surface mounted item.

SAMSUNG HCM4215W Rear Projection HDTV shuts down

Low ohm resistors are open or poor solder connections on the bottom of a convergence IC.

You need to look at resistors in good light with magnifying glass. Bad ones may show as discolored or burnt.

The repair needs someone that has the schematic for the convergence cct, and can replace the burnt resistors or replace the whole convergence board.

http://calgaryconvergencerepair.weebly.com/index.html

If you are near Calgary, call me, if not, find someone that has done it before, preferably many times.
