If you have access to the Windows XP CD you can delete both partitions during the build process and then create one new large partition. The screen where you would do this is the first place the build process stops after loading the drivers, etc. You will see a list of existing partitions. Highlight the first one and there will be a choice to delete the partition. You have to confirm the deletion. Then do the same thing with the second partition. At this point you can proceed with the build process allowing the build process to create a partition of the available space. Make sure that you have a copy of any drivers that are unique, especially NIC. You can typically download these from the vendor's web site.

Thanks for choosing fixya.com
Your not alone in this type of problem. When it comes to computer (laptop especially) they usually have a "Max allowed ram" most times its listed in the back of the manual in small print. Its a way to keep people buying new computers (if your into the conspiracy theories)
Chances are even a bios upgrade would not fix your problem. Mostly BIOS upgrades add support for new boot options, plug and play support, and fixes to bugs in older versions.
You can check aspires/acers website for updates www.acer.com
If they have an update it will comes with documentation as to what the update does.
Hope this helps you out.

Acer has a BIOS upgrade to recognize memory over 1 gig. You can get it and the BIOS flasher (Winflash) at their website.

I hope its not Vista os, because if the driver is not in its database, it does not accept any new driver. Install XP first and run the Vista Upgrade adviser from microsoft to check whether your PC hardware will run Vista....sodeep
