Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

GE Model WJRE5550H1WW When I press the start button I get lights but the water doesn't start filling. This has progressed from an occasional occurrence to frequent. Am considering replacing the board assembly but hate to spend the money if that doesn't fix the problem. been a good washer except for this.

I am hoping you fixed this problem already but if not I here is what I found out last night. My washer was acting similar to what your describing. I hit the start and I get lights flashing between fill and wash. I found out the behind the control panel is a service paper. On this paper it will describe to you how to run diagnostic on the control panel to check for error codes and the functions for the washer(Pump, spin, hot water valve, cold water valve, slow agitate, fast agitate). When test the functions a second LED was lit indicating the pressure switch(also called water level switch) was showing a full load. Washer was empty! I then unpluged the washer and checked for continuity on the water level switch between the termials where the orange wire and the brown wire attach to. I was having sporadic continuity.(explains the flashing lights between fill and wash). If you have no continuity or sporadic like I did replace the switch. It is like $20 shipped on line. I hopes this helps. I spent I good 6 hours on the internet yesterday piecing info together on this because I couldn't find the same problem I was having.

Thanks, but I did already replace the water pressure switch (to no avail). It was inexpensive as you point out and a likely choice as the culprit. My model does not have a digital screen so there is not a diagnostic readout to show error codes and such. I next replaced the water inlet valve which again did not fix the problem. So I am still stuck with washing clothes when the machine feels it is ready, which is often enough to keep the family in clean clothes but not quite seldom enough to justify a new machine. Thanks for taking the time for your suggestion.

The Indicator lights show the error codes. I have the same model. When you take the 3 screws out to get into the control panel there should be a folded paper on the back left hand side. It is the service sheet. It will detail you on how to diagnose/ operate the error code settings. It also has the error codes for the led indicator light on the motor control board. If you use a putty knife you can push in 2 clips and take the front panel off. Then on top the motor is a circuit board with a LED light the flashes. The service sheet explains the blinks. Also found out if you unplug the machine for 30 seconds or more then plug it back in and open/close the lid 5 or more times within like 10 seconds that it will reset the error codes.

Thanks, dpiddy. Useful info and I will check out the service sheet along with your suggestions when I get a moment!

I also forgot to mention when you take of the front cover of the washing machine there is a bundle of wire on the right hand side. About 3/4 of the way up the bundle should be wrapped with tape. The white wire with a red tracer has a built in fuse! This may be bad also. I would unplug the machine strip back insulation on both sides of the fuse and test for continuity. If you get nothing the fuse is blown and needs replaced. It is $10 from sears parts.

Your welcome. Liked I said I just went through all this myself and I know how frustrating it can be. I just want to pass the knowledge along because this info seems to be hard to find on the internet.

GE washing machine model#WJRE5550H1WW machine will drain but wont spin

Check motor, motor control unit, drain system (I know it drains) and pressure switch. Start checking from drain system and pressure switch. The pressure switch determines water level. The timer checks the output from pressure switch to decide that drain is complete and advance cycle to spin.

Check also the position of the drain hose. Ensure that the height is as specified by the manual or you get siphoning and drain does not end.

Here a page about drain/spin problem.

Start checking drain and pressure switch, then test the other parts.
