Question about Kitchen Ranges

3 Answers

5-7 year old Jenn-Air dual-fuel slide-in range. Model SVD4800P, Serial #16686317WH. Came home today to hear a buzzing sound (kind of like a stuck solenoid). No digital read-out where the clock is located. Everything works except the oven and control panel. I didn't like the sound of it, so I shut the power off. Any idea?

The control panel suggestion narrows it down, but there are, I believe, at least 3 relay boards in this unit. The buzzing sounds like its coming from the back side of the unit. I'm suspecting it could be the relay board for the down draft. Possible?

The door-locking solenoid being stuck is also a possibility, but why did the control panel (clock, inginition, etc.) go dead too? I can see the solenoid behind the control panel when I remove the front cover, but the sound seems to be coming from further back inside the unit. I guess I'll need to disconnect the vent, gas line, and power...so I can totally remove the monster. Nothing's easy

That noise you hear is a solenoid that is engaging to release the lock / latch. None of them are really quiet, you would have to replace this part, however it may be just as loud.
The only remedy I can think of is to NOT lock the door unless you need to self clean the oven.

Hope that helps....

Sounds like a short in the control panel, and will have to be replaced.

The retailer where you are getting the range should be able to tell you what parts you need. Some of the ovens are vented through the floor and require a bottom exhaust kit. Talk with your salesperson he should be able to help.
