Question about Canon PowerShot S2 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

The screen of the camera works only for setting and menus, but for shutting photos the screen is black. No more photos could be taken. I seems to be taking photos but all of them are black. But I heard about this page and here I am.

And here you go, this should help. A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras, particularly for the SD1000. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. By the way, my wife's SD1000 also has this problem every once in a while. I easily fix it by using the following steps from the link: powering on the camera, opening and closing the battery door, and flicking the end of the lens barrel with my fingertip (or you can tap it with a pencil as discussed in the link).

I want the photo to display on the screen after the photo is taken. It seems to take 5 or more seconds before it is displayed.

Enter the cameras menu system and navigate to the icon on the left that looks like a pencil. Press mulit-selecter to right then down to image review then press right again, Choose "on". Exit all Menus and give a try.

My Canon PowerShot SD880 IS has a black display screen. I cannot take pics now with the black screen, but the display DOES work for pics taken before the screen went black. Please help!

I don't have a solution, but I have the same problem. I found one posting elsewhere that said that this was a "common" problem. That person's camera was under warranty. Mine isn't, but it's less than 2 years old.

Black screen

Sounds like the shutter is jammed shut, possible due to sand or oil. Do the Menus work ? If they do that tells you the LCD is OK. Sounds like the cameras need to go to a repairer.

Screen won't display pictures!

From what you are writing it seems that the camera works fine and that the screen is also ok, FIrst of all make sure you have the memory card inside the camera, if you have it in, then take it out, clean it up a little and the slot also. also you can connect your camera to the computer and check if the photos are in the camera or not. Then I would suggest you make sure in the menu that photos are allowd to be displayed. If you have more questions and you made all this post it here and i'll what else we can do.
