Ok the humming sound can be one of two things. The worse case scenario is the motor is frozen and therefore dead. On the flipside tho sometimes it can be as simple as something binding on the impeller so that it cant get its initial spin and thats why it makes the humming sound and would eventually throw (trip) the breaker. The way to test is to first *****************MAKE SURE THE POWER TO THE MOTOR IS OFF***************** AND THAN DEAD CENTER ON THE BACK OF THE MOTOR (basically oposite the basket ya know where the noise is) THERE WILL BE EITHER A CAP THAT LOOKS LIKE A NUT AND WITH A QUARTER TURN IT WILL COME OFF OR THERE WILL BE A INDENTED OR INVERTED CAP WHICH YOU WILL NEED A THIN FLATHEAD FOR AND YOU TAP IN A COUPLE SPOTS TO PRY IT OUT. EITHER WAY WHEN YOU GET THAT OFF YOU WILL SEE THE END OF THE SHAFT. ( Its made out of stainless and its flat on two sides so that a 1/2 inch wrench can fit on it). IF YOU THAN TURN THAT SHAFT AND IT SPINS FREELY YOU PROBALY HAVE A DEAD MOTOR. IF YOU SPIN IT AND IT FEELS A LITTLE GRINDYTHAN MAYBE SOMETHING IS STUCK IN THE IMPELLER. IF THATS THE CASE GO AHEAD AND MAKE A FEW ROTATIONS AND THAN TRY TURNING ON THE PUMP AGAIN TO SEE IF THAT HELPED TO GET IT TURN OVER. MAKE SURE NOTHING IS ATTACHED WHEN YOU TURN IT BACK ON.

Pentairs warranty is one year if you just bought a pump by itself and three years if you have three or more major pieces of Pentair or Sta-Rite equipment installed at the same time. Also the warranty is for the original owner only it is non-transferrable.

Some of the common causes for this condition is if the basket in the pump ever cracks than stuff can get pass and clogg or bind the impeller. Now dead center on the shaft and the motor is whats called the Ps-1000 mechanical seal and if that develops a leak that isnt noticed or caught for a while than eventually the water from the leak will make it back into the bearings and windings of the motor and cause it to die.

Pool pump problem: Cavitation sound in spite of no blockages in suction lines. Replaced many parts and replumbed with no success.

me id make a temporary suction line that could be dropped right in the pool (half union, suction hose with brick tied on end) this would easy test the underground pipes/valves for any spider cracks (air inlets) observe the output using the ole pump if no improvement then sorry that ole pumps gotta go

frequently on old installs I find that winter weather wasn't so kind to the plastic pipes and they develop spider cracks(tiny ) this provides a path to suck air into line

Pump won't prime any higher than basket. It has a good water flow into it. Just put in new seals on cartridge lid and basket cover.Don't see any cracks anywhere. Used lube on seals. Has been an off...

The pump is sucking air from somewhere. First, check pool water level and make sure it is up a few inches in the skimmer. Then, make sure the gasket on the square lid is in proper place and lubed. Next, check the drain plug on the bottom of pump housing in front of suction side of pump, and make sure there is a rubber gasket on it and tighten, if no gasket, remove and put 8-9 wraps of teflon tape on it and put back in and tighten. next, check the pipe going in to the pump and try and turn it or move it clockwise or counterclockwise, if it moves even a litttle bitfreely or has slop in it, it may be melted from pump running dry at one time or another. to repair you will need to cut the pipe on the suction side, 2 inches past the back of the fitting that screws into pump. unscrew loose fitting, wrap with 8-10 wraps of teflon tape and re insert and tighten. install a coupling on the remaining open ends. and last but not least, if all this above didnt do the trick, you will have to have your suction line pressure tested for a leak.

My Mother-in-law age 86 drove her 95 Olds Ceria to the grocery and when she came out it would not start. It was fine when she went in to the store. It has 35,000 miles on it. What do you think happened?

sounds like the fuel pump went out, a fuel pump doesnt go out by mileage all the time they can also go out do to age the car being a 95 makes the car 16 years old so that is the first thing i would check take off the gas cap and put your ear to the nozzle and have someone turn the key to the on possition and listen for a humming sound if it doent make a sound your fuel pump is defintely went out. hope this helps.

Making a loud squeal or hum during

Sounds like a motor with bad bearings. In that unit it would be the water pump or condenser fan motor. If the sound is coming from inside the unit it is the water pump.

My garbage disposal is not working. Making humming sound when turned on. I tried to press the red reset button but to no avail. Also tried to turn the little dosposal wrench in bottom hole of disposal but...

It is most likely plugged up there is a clap with a butterfly bolt that you turn counter clockwise remove the clamp and have a trash can under it and wiggle it to remove the lower half of the disposal, when it comes off dump it out and clean with fresh water. Then with hands free of the pump turn the disposal back on, it if still hums the motor is bad and you will have to replace..

Motor Hums,No Run

Inside the back case on the motor you'll see a white piece with two copper colored arms that have two silver points that almost touch. If these are rusty I've found that the motor won't turn over
. A quick fix is to take some 600+ grit Aluiminum oxide sandpaper and give each of those contact points a brisk sanding to remove any oxidation. This will help the points make a positive contact . Make sure while very obvious that the motor is unplugged first.

Sprinkler system, pump makes humming nose but never turns on

Make sure the water to the pump is turned on.  If it is then it sounds like the pump may have to be replaced.

Heat pump is humming loud>

When the heat is not on. Go to the T-stat and turn the fan to the on position. With the blower now running is it making the noise? If so you probably either have something in there such as the filter that was mentioned, a piece of paper etc. or one or more of the blades on the blower wheel is vibrating. Don't let the condition persist w/o having it checked out or you may turn a simple fix into a costly one.
