My memory card can not be formatted

It is more likely a card error. SD cards for all except the newest cameras must be formatted FAT16. Windows version 9x through XP format FAT32 by default. Some cameras cannot reformat FAT32 to FAT16, so when using a reader, do not format the card on the reader unless FAT or FAT16 is specifically selected. Cards can become "corrupted" if a file is opened for editing directly from the card, i.e, the file was not copied to the computer before editing. Temp or working files can be left on the card if the card is dismounted from the reader before the edited file or the program itself is closed and the working files deleted. Some cameras cannot format in the presence of temp files. Always copy all files to the computer before doing any editing.
A "corrupted" card that cannot be formatted in camera might be resurrected by formatting FAT16 in a reader.
To format using Windows XP, Vista and 7
1. Open 'My Computer' 2. Right click the Drive assigned to the CF Reader 3. Select Format 4. Select the appropriate File System from the drop down list (Either FAT or FAT32; FAT is FAT16, the default for most cards of 2GB or less) 5. Select Default Allocation Size from the Allocation Unit Size drop box 6. Ensure that Quick format and Compression are Disabled 7. Click Start
Good Luck, Hope this helps If so do rate the solution

The 8gb pny flash drive will only hold 751 mb. How can I format it to hold more info.

Most flash drives are formatted in FAT32 - back up your data first. You may be able to reformat the drive in XP and higher versions of Windows. Start > Control Panel > System (System and Security in Win7) > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > DisK Management. Make sure the USB drive is not active (ready to remove). Delete the current volume (Action > All Tasks) on the flash drive. Then format the USB drive using the NTFS standard. (Make sure you do not reformat C: unless you are prepared to reinstall your OS)

A simpler way to get more data on a FAT32 drive is to use folders. The total number of files in the home directory (E: (if C: is the hard drive and D: is the optical drive)) is the critical limit on a FAT32 drive. (I remember a limit of 512 files but that might have been FAT16).

Third-party partitioning solutions can also be used.

I hope this helps.

I have purchased a 8gb memory card for my samsung digital camera but it is not working, it keeps saying card error. Any ideas?

if that happens try to reformat your sd card
all you need is a card reader and plug it in your pc find format and choose fat32*note only fat,fat16,fat32 format can be read by your camera so be careful when doing so.

RCA Pearl TH1602-A default formatting

first of all, you need to be running these tests on a FAT16/32 bit machine running windows 95/98. second, right click on the device in my computer -> properties and at the top it will state the format:
File System: FAT32

The device always retains its factory settings/formatting until it is plugged into a computer, just by having it plugged in a .ini file is created and settings are stored in it, including file name, system and usually the format version.

If a user re-formats this device, they may have (assuming they excel in computers as i do...) the knowledge to edit these settings. Good luck

MP3 Player reads reformat error Fat16. How do I reformat it?

Plug the mp3 player into the computer
Double-click My Computer
Right-click icon of the mp3 player
Select Format
It will give you a choice usually between FAT and FAT32 - FAT is the same as FAT16 in Windows-speak, so select "FAT"

If you have plugged your mp3 player into a Mac, you are out-of-luck.
