Question about Magic Chef CMV1000B Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Our oven runs for two or thre minuts and then shuts itself off . After about ten minutes or so the power comes back on and it can be used again. When heating up a liquid and then opening the door the oven is full off steam. I checked the outside vent and all is clear out side. Is there another way the vent can be blocked from insidethe oven itself? I hane looked at the unit to see how to remove it from its mouting system but it is not clear on how to get it out. can you help with that as well? thanks in advanc for any help you can give us .

Carefully apply the below recommendation on how to install an oven vent

Venting systems provide a way to clean out oil, steam and cooking smells from a kitchen. Without a vent, kitchens quickly become coated in grime from cooking, and cooks might become overwhelmed with heat and steam. Installing a vent for an oven is a simple task, requiring the most basic knowledge and tools. Paying attention to electrical safety is the most important part of this project.
Instructions And Material Needed.

  • Vent system,Screwdriver,Temporary brace material such as a piece of lumber, or a second set of hands,Tape measure,Drill,Hammer,Electrical staples,Electrical tape
Instruction On How To Installing An Oven Vent
  1. Turn off the electricity to the kitchen from the breaker box. Support the vent with a piece of lumber. Remove any cabinetry or decorative wood work from the location. Prepare an opening for duct work.
  2. Measure the vent opening. Using a tape measure, check the length, width and diagonal measurements twice. This will help you choose an appropriately sized vent for the location.
  3. Install the vent. Most oven vent systems include a template for measurements and accurate placement of support brackets. Place your template, and mark the proper locations for screws and brackets. Using a piece of lumber, or the assistance of a second person, brace the vent into its location. Check to make sure the ducts align before you screw anything into place. Using your drill, screw the vent into the location, leaving it slightly loose.
  4. Connect the wiring. The instructions or template for the vent system will indicate how to properly connect the wiring. Connect the wires, and secure them with either electrical bolts or electrical tape. Tuck the wires into the compartment in the back of your venting unit to avoid damage to the electrical system.
  5. Test your vent. Turn on the electricity from the breaker. Run a test cycle on the vent. Listen for any strange sounds, or faltering in the electrical system, which could indicate a problem.
  6. Complete the bracketing. Using your drill or screwdriver, tighten the screws in the support brackets completely. There should be no amount of play in the movement of the vent on the wall. You can test this by trying to wiggle or shift the vent on the wall.
Good luck and thanks for using fixya.

Will I have ruined the microwave if I forgot to put the food in the oven and made it cut out?

Its possible you could have burnt it out. You also may have blown the fuse which should be inside the cabinet. Before you do anything get a container of water and try to heat it and see if the machine works.
The microwave may have to reset itself. If it appears to work I would use it. If it shuts itself off then you have a problem but its probably cheaper to get a new one than to repair.

Not enough venting. Imagine putting your hair dryer on full and putting it that cabinet. Would your venting keep it cool? Your microwave oven uses about the same current

Sounds like the electronics overheated. You'd have to pull it and examine the insides to see what has gone bad. It could be pretty much anything.

Microwave runs about 3 to 4 minutes and shuts off like no power to unit but the breaker is not tripped and not hot, then the unit comes back on after about 15 minutes. ???

It sounds like the magnetron is not working properly and the temperature sensor is expecting temperature rise, it is not getting any and shuts down.
Hope that expalins it for you.

My JVM1653 loses power after 3 minutes of heating

it may have been the hi voltage at the magnetron, but the shut down is your heat thermocouple mounted on the magnetron side and when the mag overheats this thermocouple opens up and shuts off power to the mag to prevent overheating and fire

Shuts itself off mid cooking cycle -- as if unplugged; then after 5 minutes or so turns itself back on as if it was just plugged in (forgetting all previous settings)

If you just put the fan blade back on, it will almost certainly fall off again.

The best bet is to slightly rough up the contact area of the shaft with sandpaper and use a little super glue to hold the blade assembly on the shaft, and let it set a few minutes before using it.

I always recommend that you use the hood vent exhaust fan when cooking on the stove top to keep heat, steam, and grease out of the controls.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

Microwave shuts down after cooking three or four minutes

Your magnetron is overheating and tripping the thermostat, which interrupts power until it cools.

Since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

Oven turns off

You are running the risk of damaging the Magnatron by doing this.

Check the packets you are using, you will have to reduce your power output.

This is because microwaves act by being absorbed by water. There is very little in popcorn and in fat. Once this has been evaporated, the microwave energy builds up (as it is still being produced - but not absorbed), and ends up cooking the magnatron itself.

I have seen countless posts on here after cooking popcorn!

More fun on the hob anyway - and cheaper to buy in bulk!
