Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Does the primer bulb fill with fuel after several pumps? The carburetor may need to be cleaned internally if the above doesn't help. Check the condition of the lower diaphragm for flexibility and no cracks or holes when working on the carburetor. Inspect the insulator inside the spark plug--it should be a light tan color if running correctly, but may be black (too much fuel) or white (insufficient fuel). Macs seem to require judicious use of the choke until warmed up. Make sure the 'fast idle' is being set (don't 'blip' the throttle during warm up). Hope some of this helps!

Changed carb on a stihl 025 from a single set screw to a double set screw . what settings do i need to start initially

on the needle setting closest to engine(air) it is turn clockwise till it stops, then open it up counter clockwise 1 turn. The second adjustment needle, should be turned clockwise till it stops, then opened up 1 1/2 turns. Adjust the second or gas, until your engine sounds like it is running it's best.

Saw runs good but when shut off it wont start again for sometime

Check your fuel filter in case it is clogged. When starting pull cord on full choke 5 times quickly. Wait 2 or 3 seconds...try again if it asks like it wants to start..then put on 1/2 choke...goes thru same process. Check spark plug.

Starting procedure for stihl 012 av

Full choke, stop switch on run. Pull rope handle 3-4 times or more until it "tries to start" (it will not start, but it will try to for a split second) move the choke lever to the half-choke position and without pulling the throttle, poll the rope handle until the engine fires and runs for 4-5 seconds then fully open the choke to the run position, let it warm up for 25-30 seconds (don't forget to let it cool down about 45-60 seconds before you turn it off!) and then proceed to use it.

Starts very easily runs for 5 seconds then dies, pump quick start bulb once, starts in 1 pull run for 5 seconds , new clean fuel, carb still has factory stops on adjusters limiting change to about 1/4...

hi , if you have a compression tester use that to test for worn piston rings /scored cylinder , if not remove the exhaust and visualise the cylinder and check for scoring , remove the spark plug and block the hole with your thumb , it should feel nice and night when you pull the saw over , if it fails then you will need replacement rings and/or piston and cylinder .
hope this helps

The second hand McCulloch 120 chainsaw I purchased

I think the pre-adjust settings are to turn jets in all the way and back out 1.5 turns each. then:

You will find a Low and High adjustment screw. At idle turn the screw in or clockwise until the rps starts to decrease. Then start turning it out till you hit max idle rpms. Turn screw back in a quarter to half turn and it should be idling smoothly. Be careful here and get someone to hold saw if necessary but hold in throttle to full speed and do the same with high adjustment screw. turn it in till rpm starts to drop then back it out until you get to max rpm and it won't go any higher then turn it back in a half a turn.
