Question about Lenovo 3000 Y410 Notebook

1 Answer

I too have the same problem of shutting down of Y410 laptop. It works really fine when i surf the internet or watch movies. But when I try to play a game, the pc shuts down suddenly without notification. I purchased a laptop cooler and tried to put my lappy over dat, but in vain. The problem is getting more and more intense nowadays and it shuts down if i run 2 to 3 programs simultaneously. I formatted my pc several times to get rid of the flash player issue. But the problem is still prevalent. Iam a hardcore gamer and my playing is halted with this kind of issue. This might be due to overheating. What should i do??? Please please help as soon as you can. Thank you.

thanx again for your reply. i have cleaned my cpu fan once before myself, but not effectively. Do you really think that cleaning the fan or heatsink will terminate my problem. i mean to say that is overheating the only reason for this type of problem? Is all my hardware parts seems ok? If the problem persists after all the steps you said, what should i do?

This isn't a true gaming laptop, and the stresses hardcore gaming is putting on the chip is probably causing it to overheat. I'd guess its running at 90 degrees from what you describe and which is why its shutting down.
Download a copy of Everest system analysis and see what the CPU temp and MOBO temps are.

Even FIFA is graphic intensive, however, the question you asked was to know whether the laptop was overheating and to answer this, I need to know what temperature the laptop is running at when you have been gaming.
Please download and install a trial of everest and see what temperature the laptop is running athttp://www.lavalys.com/
You will see the tempearture icons on the taskbar when everest is active.

Once we know the operating temperature we can see what is to be done to help further

According to opinion on the Lenovo forums 58 degrees is about the temperature reached while gaming, this appears to be a laptop that runs hot. For a Dual core however, I would have thought 65 degrees is running hotter then it should be.
My first advice is to clean out the CPU fan assembly and the heatsink and grilles. You can do this by vacuuming through the intake and exhaust ports but I have found that with experience, the best way is to partially dismantle the laptop to get to the cpu. I THINK this model has a cover plate that is held on by 2 screws. IF you choose to remove the heatsink for cleaning, make sure you regrease the chip with cpu grease though.

I can't see my Netflix movie on my laptop I can hear it but I can't see it

Shut down other applications when watching Netflix on your computer.
If you are watching Netflix on a Windows computer, it uses a program called Silverlight to play the video. If your processor goes above 80% usage, Silverlight will shut down the video and play audio only.

Is the laptop free of dust in fan and vents? Is there sufficent air flow through the laptop, bottom and side vents? Shut down ALL unnessary programs at laptop start. In TOOLS, STARTUP, Disable ALL unnessary startup programs, In the Internet Explorer Tab, Disable/ delete ALL TOOLBARS, they are killers on broswer speed. Try MALWAREBYTES freeware at : http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ In the installation, UNCHECK the TRIAL PRO version, you want the freeware version. While browsing net r watching movies my lap(acer extensa 4630)shut down itself

The processor has to perform large amount of work while surfing , especially while usingvideos and animationMultiple windows/tabsnumber of browserwhich in turn produces lot of heat . The heat produced is managed by the interneal heat sink and inbuilt cooling fans. But this cooling process may get affected by the blockage in air vents due to dust.So to safeguard the laptop form overheat, it automatically shuts down.
One simple try :Go to the Adobe flash properties and disable Hardware acceleration for online content. That ought to stop the system from rebooting or crashing.

Else...Its better to call a technician when it shuts down often.....
