Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a GE refrigerator (model # GSH25SGRESS). The problem happens when the compressor needs to kick back on I hear a clicking noise from the main control panel but the compressor doesn’t start up. It seems that when I activate the water dispenser the compressor will start up again. I also noticed that both the water and ice dispenser do not always work and when they don’t, I try again later and they will usually work. The compressor shut-off when it reaches the refrigerator’s cooler setting level and when compressor trying to kicks back to run, I hear the noise from the main control board on my GE Refrigerator.

Change the control. GE has a number of problems with the original boards.

GE Profile - model PDS20SBSALSS - constant clicking noise

The clicking is the compressor trying to start. If the compressor is extremely hot, try allowing it to cool. The condenser fan should run even if the compressor is out on overload; that may be the cause of the compressor failure. Check the supply to the fan and replace it if it doesn't run.If the compressor has been overheating for some time, it may be damaged and also need replacing.

The clicking could be the start relay. If the start relay is bad, the compressor will not start and you will hear a clicking noise in 2-5 minute intervals. The clicking noise is the overload cutting the compressor off when it overheats from trying to start with a bad start relay. To find out if this is bad first unplug the refrigerator. Remove the lower cover from your refrigerator. Then take the cover off that is on the side of the compressor, you will see wires going to this. Now you should be able to see the start relay plugged on to the side of the compressor and unplug it. Now the best way to tell if it's bad is to shake it. If it rattles, it's bad and needs to be replaced. If not, most of the time it's ok. But rather than saying the compressors bad, you might want to replace it anyways because it does not cost much. A quick check on the compressor is to remove the start relay. You will see 3 pins connect a multi meter set for continuity. You should have continuity between any of the 3 pins. If you do not the compressor is bad. Also check from each pin to a good ground on the cabinet. There should be no continuity if there is the compressor is bad. If you replace it and it doesn't work then the compressor is bad and you'll need to call a repairman. (Note that compressors are very costly and are normally not worth fixing). You can enter your model # at Refrigerator clicking for diagrams and illustrations or to purchase a start relay. A 3 in 1 start relay will also work fine. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available.

Profile Arctica, Air flow fan runs but compressor dont kick in to make anything cold!

1. is light on in side when you open the door. If not check breakers or fuses.
2. Can you hear the compressor running. If not do you hear any clicking sounds.
3. If you hear clicking sounds, try putting a fan on compressor and unplug refrigerator.
4. Wait one hour.
5. plug back in. If compressor starts let it run and see if it cools, if it doesnt, call service man.
6. If it goes back to clicking, call a service man.
try this.

GE TBX25ZLB Refrigerator Compressor won't Engage

Part number for compressor relay is WR7X222. However, you have a very old rotary compressor there and most likely it went bad. I would just buy a new fridge. Don't waste your time/money. The fridge is too old.

The clicking noise may be the overload located at the compressor. If so the compressor start relay, start capacitor and overload may need replaced. Have you noticed any change in cooling or freezer temperatures? Sea Breeze

I have a GE referigerator Model # GSH25KGRE of 4 years old... I hear a constant click-click noise coming from the back/motor..and I suspect the temp in the freezer is slowly dying down..

The clicking behind the refrig , is comming from the main control board , behind the 8" X 10 " panel . The part number is WR55X10656 . The compressor relay , on the board has burnt . Yes , your freezer is thawing , due to the clicking .

Clicking noise approximately 1 second apart

That clicking noise is possibly your compressor overload kicking off because it cannot start the compressor. Most times the start relay or the start capacitor are defective. But because your refrigerator has a mother board located on the back and behind a panel. We need to consider the board is going out. Unplug the refrigerator and pull away from the wall. Remove the screws on the rear panel to expose the mother board. Need to look for burn marks on both sides or a signed that a relay has been over heating. The board is part number WR55X10656

GE HSS25GFP not cooling at all

May be a problem related to the compressor. Click may be the overload protector on the compressor tripping. If it is a problem with the compressor it should be covered by warranty if it is only three years old.

Groaning noise on GE side by side refrigerator

Hello Michael,
Thanks for your question, I hope I can help some. My answer is long winded but full of good info.
The noise could be as the GE guy said refrigerant (gas) noise. If it is refrigerant noise it happens as the liquid refrigerant comes out of the tiny capillary tube and enters the evaporator (cooling) coil in the freezer. Along with the liquid coming through the capillary tube there often are gas pockets. The flow of the liquid and gas pockets into the evaporator coil cause strange sounds. If the noise you are hearing is this refrigerant noise, you should only hear the noise while the compressor is running and then only for a short time (1 to 2 minutes) after the compressor shuts off.
If the noise continues after that I do not think it is a refrigerant noise.
There are times when the compressor will not be running but the fan in the freezer will be running on this model. This is normal and working properly but if the noise is present when the freezer fan is running and the noise stops when the freezer fan stops, the likely cause will be the main board located in a square panel on the rear of the refrigerator above the compressor compartment. I know that sounds crazy but the main board can cause the freezer fan motor to make some really strange noises. Eventually the board will probably fail.
One other test would be for you to listen for the compressor to turn off, then if the noise is present after the compressor turns off, you would next unplug the refrigerator from the receptacle. If the noise continues with the refrigerator unplugged it must be refrigerant noise. If it stops, I am betting on a bad main board.
I tried to locate for you information on a material that Whirlpool and Frigidaire as well as some others use as a noise deaden-er that they wrap around where the capillary tube enters the evaporator. I was not successful in locating anything. I am sorry I could not find it.

Side by side stopped working but clicling noises every second two.

Read, this model posted has a main board in back that controls the refer. Your problem sounds like the overload and relay on the compressor but you need to do a test to verify. On the main board in back there is a blue harness, 3 pronged, that is marked line, defr and comp. Lower left hand corner. You need to get a jumper wire with alligator clips and with the plug out, jump line to comp. Now plug it back in, this will send 120V directly to the compressor. See if it starts. If not and it does it clicking thing, chances are it's the overload and relay, or the compressor itself. You have five years warranty on the compresser. If it starts, it's the board it's the board giving you the problem. This of course is for the GSH model posted...Catriver..post back.
