I have known several people who have had similar issues with norton, It seems to be quite resource hungry, if you really want to keep norton then I would suggest a RAM upgrade to give your machine more power, alternatively, you could try another antivirus, I use Microsoft Security Essentials and it works well for me.
However, check to see if norton is running a system scan, this will almost definately make your machine run slower.
i've tried (for several days now) to download the software, but everytime i click "download & play" nothing happens
(it looks like the 'page' just keeps refreshing it self for several minutes, ending in a "error code 357" message!
I contacted skillground numerous times , and thou they are helpful in
their replies.. they keep saying that its my router and/or firewall
that prevents the software from downloading.. BUT
even when i disable the router (running the internet cable direct
from the "wall plug" into my pc) , and disableing my firewall (Norton)
(i have even tried uninstalling the Norton).... its still the same
I've allowed cookies... set the internet security to minimum
..disabled the router and Norton firewall, ..removed the skillground
'program' and even tried to create another account ...but its still the
same problem ... so i've ran out of idea's
but have you tried checking (in addition to your router, and norton firewalls) the built-in vista firewall?
For computer speed and optimization, I recommend iobit advanced systemcare free which also free. I have used this to optimize my system also. It also helps with internet optimization. You can find it here: http://iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html
I hope you are satisfied with these products as I use them also and they have done great things for me. If you have any more questions, please let me know.
Hi mollducks, first things first. If you are using any version of XP turn on windows firewall. Click the start button & open control panel. Open windows firewall & click it to on if it is not on. Try downloading AVG antivirus software for free at this link: http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe Than run it. Full system scan. After you run AVG on you're system use Norton’s remove utility to uninstall any left over files from Norton. AVG should have caught any virus. http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 If you bought Norton antivirus software for download, go to this Norton site & click support: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/index.jsp If it was the free download, try again to download it. Norton should do a quick scan during installation. You might want to keep AVG. Norton should still install with AVG already installed. You can remove AVG at any time. Lastly, once you feel there are no virus's in you're system shut down the PC. Unplug the power cord from the PC. Open the case & gently remove you're memory DIMM's. Wait 1 minute & re-install them. Make sure they are correctly connected. Double check all data & power cables are securly connected & close the PC & plug the power cord back in. (By doing this you remove any virus that may be hiding with in you're memory).
Good luck mollducks!
Feel free to ask if there is still an issue with norton after running the above sugestions.
