This could be caused be 3 different things. Either the tub is off balance, or the tub bearings may be worn throwing the tub off, or the agitiator dogs that keep it aligned may be off. The best thing to do is look and see which one it is causing the problem. FIrst check for unbalance or too light of a load.

the spider gear is broken,it would be cheaper to replace the washer than have it repaired, you either overloaded the washer or used to much detergent, you should only use two tablespoons of h.e. detergent in a front load washer or you did both,if you look at the back wall it looks like a peace sign, that's where the gear is

Washer makes loud knocking noise

I think that the drum bearings have gone on the machine..

To open the door and spin the empty drum quickly by hand and you should hear the noise or say a less amplifed one.. You can also move the inner drum up and down to see if there is something wrong with it..

Loud increasing "ticks" during spin cycle

take the two screws out of the front bottom panel and fill the machine up with water then get a flashlight and turn to spin and if you look at the top of the transmission behind the motor watch for any water flying out it there is that is the cause of the problem if not you have a bad motor
