Question about Microwave Ovens

Open Question

I purchased a GE Profile Artica frig/freezer Mod.#PSC23PSTB SS; Serial #DM 418474 about 3 yrs. ago. The ice maker is not working. I call a repair man who looked at it and said the "mother board" needed to be replace and also a fan motor for the freezer. He suggested I call you saying that to get a warranty fix that I would have to have a certified GE repairman. I llive in Brentwood, Tn. area code 37027. Question #1: Do I have any warranty that would help with this problem. The repairman said this model is known to have 'mother board' problems. I feel GE should help with this repair. Question #2: Name & number of a local GE repairman

SOURCE: GE Microwave vent fan replacement.

The part # SMV-260UA runs just under $60 from SamsungParts, depending on which of three versions you choose. You can find them here.

And a simple Google search shows quite a few hits for "SMV-260UA" and they seem to run about $40, assuming the listings aren't bogus - as so many search results are.

I have a few "new old stock" and used vent & cooling fans here.

I would be happy to supply one whole or just the blades if you like.

Just tell me the dimensions: diameter of the shaft hole and the length and diameter of the "squirrel cage" itself and I'll see if one of mine would work.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: Model JVM1870SK04 Spacemaker XL1870

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Details of our service and critical safety information and disassembly information is at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Feel free to contact me directly.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Frig or freeser not cold

If it is your freezer, check to make sure that the air vents inside the freezer are not blocked by food. Putting too much food in an blocking the air vents will prevent the freezer from freezing. Air needs to circulate inside the freezer for it to work properly. This can also cause excess freezer ice collecting on freezer or in foods. Dust and lint will collect under and behind a frig. Pull the frig out from the wall, unplug it. Check for lint under and on the back of it. If it has accumulated some, vacuum it all off and plug it back in and wait a while to see if it gets cold. The fan pulls lint and dust under the frig and it stops the cooling system. If this doesn't work, it may need the freon (can't spell it correctly) stuff replaced. If these don't work, you need to call

Your Ice maker may be the cause. if it is not holding water the water may be landing on the bottom and freezing, causing the ice build up and obstructing the air transfer from the freezer to the refrigerator. You can remove or replace your Ice maker. Then you will have to defrost your freezer to get everything back to normal.

Ice maker will not make ice

hELLO THERE:
There's no ice If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order: It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these: If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire. If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire. In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly. The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary. The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

Inside the freezer, at the back is another fan that circulates cold air from the freeze through out the fridge. Make sure it's running. Sometimes the blade will slip on the shaft and get jammed, or the motor could be defective.

If yes. turn the water off, remove the frig end, have someone hold it into a bucket, turn the water back on - let it run for a while. Turn it off. Get a report from your helper about pressure. Check the strainer that may be in the line where you hook the supply pipe to the frig. Make sure it is clear and clean. Try again.
