Question about HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer

1 Answer

I'm printing on 110 lb card stock and the toner gets crispy..and actually flakes off on the edges and sometimes leaves smears and clumps of black or burnt toner on the paper. It prints fine on 20 lb paper but just started putting a grey cast over the entire page. I have been using remanufactured toner cartridges but both problems just started happening. Is this a fuser problem? any help appreciated!! lnoltee

Could be the fuser but there is a setting for heavy paper or card stock which will slow it down and increase the heat. depends on your model as to where this can be changed.

If the toner smears after the page comes out of the printer you may need a new fuser. The fuser is the heating unit in the printer and can usually be seen from opening the back door. Check and see if it has a line worn down the same side as the mark on your pages.

SOURCE: Grey background over entire page.

If toner is getting onto the transfer belt, it can only get there by either being put there intentionally, or leaking.

Failure of Transfer Belt is normally degraded print quality - usually poor density, or a failure of the support behind the belt (usually puncturing the belt), and scoring a drum.

I have an oki c9650 when I print on cardstock the blacks become bubbly and flake off, but only when printing on cardstock

Set it or computer, whatever you are using to cardstock, or it may be called thick, there are multiple selections depending on the media. Beacuase thick paper requires slower speed and hotter fuseing.

I wish to use my HP Photosmart C8180 to print heavy weight cardstock... is there a setting that I can select to do this?

Step Three: Check the paper type Verify that only recommended paper is being used for printing. The recommended paper types and weights for most HP printers include:
  • Plain paper, 20 to 24 lb (75 to 90 gsm)
  • Legal size paper, 20 to 24 lb (75 to 90 gsm)
  • Card stock, up to a maximum of 110 lb (200 gsm)
  • Envelopes, 20 to 24 lb (75 to 90 gsm)
  • Photo paper, 145 lb (236 gsm)
NOTE: Supported paper weights and types vary by product. Check the Specifications sheet for your product for more information.

If you use card stock up to a maximum of 110lb then there should be no special mode to enter to print on this type of paper. Photo paper weighs in at 145 lb maximum which is heavier and can be printed on without selecting any special 'mode.'

Good luck on printing on heavy card stock.

Toner flakes off of cover stock

The fuser on fax machines is set at a temperature to heat 20 lb paper hot enough to fuse toner. Cover stock requires more heat or a slower passage through the fuser. This is done in copiers by setting the paper type to thick, which slows down the paper passage. Check if there is a setting in your fax for a different paper type.

Opening a cover during printing will cause a paper jam. If you do this several times and carefully clear th paper you may be able to isolate the origen of the smudging.

Paper keeps jamming

To print card stock you must us the manual slot in the front of the printer and feed one at a time. Also open the back flap door so the card stock can exit out the back instead of trying to bend around for the try. That will give you the staight paper path that your thick stock needs.

Help with Brother MFC-8500 all in one printer

When you get the paper, can you smear the print with your fingers, or is printed on there properly.

if you can smear it, it would be your fuser not doing its job properly, if you cant, then its your replacement toner as it most likely incorporates the drum in it, which i think is your problem.
