My screen on my kenwood dnx 6990hd says (DC OFFSET ERROR) What does thay mean

Basically that means there is an overload or some form of power issue with the machine.
The best thing to do is reset the unit to start with. Do you have the manual?

Sounds ok but not dialogue...

It sounds to me like you are using the receiver in surround sound mode and the click you hear is the center channel turning off. If you have another center channel speaker, try swapping that for the one you are currently using. If that doesn't fix the issue, then try replacing the speaker wire. If that still doesn't fix it, then the issue is probably inside the receiver and may be either an output transistor that is failing when hot or an electrolytic capacitor that allows too much DC offset when hot.

You has DC Offset(a damaged amplifier) This is most definitely not a DIY type of repair. If you're interested in a repair, or have further questions, please visit my website at Thank you.

Kenwood with dc offset

DC offset is most often caused by the bias level for the output transistors changing for some reason. This could just be that the control is dirty and needs to be cleaned and re-adjusted, or the biasing network has a problem, most likely the diode or transistor that is being used to set the reference. The diode or transistor is often mounted to the heatsink for thermal feedback, which allows the bias to change depending on how hot the output transistors are getting, There is no mention as to how high the DC offset is. The usual range for DC offset adjustment is less than +/- 1 volt. If your offset is higher than this, there usually is a problem with the bias circuit that needs to be repaired. If it is MUCH higher, then one of you output transistors or driver transistors is most likely defective.

My kenwood ddx616 indash keep showin DC OFFSET ERROER?

You could have a speaker wire or speaker tensile (flex) lead that is shorting to ground, on a floating ground BTL head unit (all that claim 18-25 watts RMS per channel) all 8 speaker wires are always floating at about half of the supply voltage, IE if the voltage is 14.4 with the engine running the speaker wires will all measure about 7 volts to ground.

The flex leads are the wires on a speaker that go from the terminals to the cone.

What shall do if my kenwood show me protect?

Hello. It could be helpful if you would give us the exact model number of the Kenwood product you have. Kenwood has made many products over the years. While it's unlikely, your Kenwood product could be the subject of a recall or repair for this problem.

If it is not, please start out by checking your speaker wiring. If you have a short or bad connection, this can cause the amplifier in your Kenwood product to shut down as a way of protecting itself.

Check your speakers as well. Make sure all of them work. Also check the impedance printed on the back of each speaker. Compare it to the ratings printed in the Kenwood manual.

If none of this helps, and you do not find a problem, your Kenwood product may require repair. "Protect" is how the microcontroller inside the receiver is trying to tell you that something is wrong and if the unit did not shut down, further damage could result.

Hi changeman5 Have you tried to do a full reset on the unit. Disconnect from the wall for 24 hrs. Then try again. If the problem persists, it may have power supply issues, or a DC offset problem shutting it down. If you are game, I could talk you through some more diagnostics...
