SOURCE: Central air does not kick in.
It sounds like you have a bad capacitor to the compressor. The humming noise is the compressor not starting up but is trying. It is either the capacitor or the compressor form your description. If you had a lightning storm or power surge about the time this happened it is most likely a bad capacitor. You can have the capacitor tested to see. Disconnect power before working on unit!

SOURCE: My furnace keeps clicking on
Remove the front cover from your thermostat and see if it has a heat anticapator. THIS WILL BE A SMALL ROUND DIAL WITH A CENTRALLY MOUNTED POINTER and a selection of numbers on the outer rim. It should have an arrow on the face of the dial that points one way and says longer and the other way that says shorter.
Check on the rating plate on the gas valve for your furnace and see if you can find the amp. rating for that valve. A usual rating would be .30 or .35 amp If you can find that then hold the dial on your thermostat and move pointer to the closest setting. Put cover back on your stat and turn it up a little to make furnace come on.
Hopefully this will help you. Good luck Thank you and have a happy holidays

• Display Backlight - (Not available on earlier models.) The display backlight improves display contrast in low lighting conditions. Selecting backlight ON will turn the light on for a short period of time after any button is pressed. Selecting backlight OFF (default) will keep the light off. Turn the display backlight feature ON as follows: 1. Press TIME and RUN buttons at the same time. The display will show "d-L" and "OFF" alternately

SOURCE: Windward II, model 55296;
First off you might try shutting down the power on the Windward itself. There may be a disconnect near the unit, or a breaker.. or the breaker may be in the house in the main breaker panel. In either case, turn it off for maybe 10 minutes and see if that resets the system for you.
Since they've been working for a year it's not the initial setup so hopefully the above gets you lined out. If not you'll probably want to check out Windward's customer service since that code probably isn't in your basic home-owner's manual you get with the unit.
If you know any local HVAC folks you might ask a technician if he has the problem codes (and symbols) for that model and they can give you an idea of what's up.
