Number 5 on this diagram is most likely your problem. This thermal limit will trip if temps exceed 300f rapidly. These dryers have a plastic blower wheel. The hub tends to wear out and slip causing excessive temps and longer clothes drying times.

SOURCE: Dryer wont run, lights work, timer clicks

what is the model number?there are a couple of things you can check with the little info you sent, check the door switch, push the paddle in and out ,if it doesn't click it's bad, check to see if the belt broke,on some dryers there is a switch down near the pulley,if the belt brakes the dryer won't run,one more thing if your dryer hasn't had a clean out in a long time or if your clothes have been taking a long time to dry check the thermal fuse located on top of the blower wheel housing,if the lint filter is on top the fuse is in the back, take off the vent line, remove the back panel and check the fuse located to the right and down near the bottom of the duct that the lint filter slides into,if the filter is inside then the fuse is in the front the fuse is on top and to the right of the blower wheel housing, also you should clean out the duct that the filter slides into, blow out the vent line, check outside and make sure the flapper is not blocked with anything and vac out the inside of the dryer where the motor is,you need to do this once a year anyway,if you still need help send the model number and let me know what you find, unplug the dryer to clean it and when working on it and remove one of the wires when using your meter

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II gas dryer won't turn off.

Dryer Won't Stop Running
  • Ultimate Car II Dryers are fitted with a mechanical timer that sends an impulse to the control circuit board to stop running once the set amount of drying time has elapsed. This is because, should an electronic timer fail, this would necessitate the replacement of the entire circuit board. Confirm that the mechanical timer is indeed broken by opening the dryer's door. If the dryer stops, the circuit board is working fine and is not the problem. Simply slide off the protective faceplate of the dryer, unscrew the control board beneath, and flip it over. Connected to the back of the timer's knob should be a small round device with two wires running to the circuit board within the body of the dryer. Unscrew this device from the back of the knob and disconnect the wires. A replacement timer costs a few dollars and should screw into place without trouble. Reconnect the wires and put the dryer back together. It should work fine now.

Dryer will not turn off after cycle is complete

You Have a Broken Timer... There are metal points inside the Timer and can melt together so when the dryer reachs its end cycle they should come apart to leave the circuit open but wont since they melted together and continues to run. Also if the dryer has a computer board controling everything that would have to be replaced if it dosnt have a timer.

1. You will have to replace the timer if your going to accomplish this on your own you will need the model number which is located on the inside of the door opening will say mod or model.

2. You will need to find a appliance parts house in your area and call them to find out how much the new timer will cost plus to make sure they still make them and if on there shelf.

3. Once you have the new timer you will need a small flat head screw driver, 1/4" - 5/16" socket and a Phillips head screw driver to remove back panel bolts.

4. (WARNING) Unplug the dryer always make sure its unplugged or you risk being severly injurded or possible death the dryer has 220 volts running thru it!

5. Remove the back panel on the dryer where the dash is once removed you will see all the wires connecting to the timer. This is where the 1/4" or 5/16 socket comes in unless its a phillips head screw driver should be 1/4" some models will require a specail star bit normally on GE Dryers

6. Remove the timer knob should slide right off then remove the 2 1/4" screws holding the timer to the dash.

7. With new timer in hand make sure it lines up with the old one so you can put the wires back where they go (IMPORTANT THERE WILL BE 2 BLACK OR BROWN WIRES GOING TO A METAL LOOKING ROUND THING THATS THE CLOCK IT DRIVES THE TIMER LEAVE THEM WIRES WHERE THERE AT) now slowly remove 1 WIRE AT A TIME off old timer and connect to new timer where they go so you dont get wires hooked up to wrong post and fry the new timer if wires wont pop off yous your flat head screw driver to gently pry the wires off the post.

8. Place timer back where it goes there are aligment holes to help and replace the 2 screws you took out earlier from the timer.

9. Replace the back panel to the dash once completed plug in your dryer and replace the timer knob and set it to 5 mins let the dryer run till it shuts off to make sure its working properly.

If your dryer has a Computer Board the new board you order will have instructions for installing it alor the them are different on how the go in.

If unsure or dont want to fool with it call a qualified techinician to service your dryer for you but hopfully this will get you back going again have a good day.

I have a Kenmore gas dryer model 97591220. wont

Disconnect power to the dryer and remove the screws attaching the console rear panel to the console and pull the panel off.

Inspect the wires connected to the timer and ensure a snug fit connection. Clean the connectors and terminals then reseat it several times to ward off dirt within the connectors.

Reconnect power to the dryer and start it; replace the timer (part number 3398195 ) if the dryer still won't stay running. Unplug the dryer and pull the timer knob off the console. Remove the screws securing the timer to the bracket and remove it. Secure the new timer in place then disconnect the wires from the old timer one at a time and connect it to the corresponding terminal on the new timer.

Push the timer back into position on the console and secure the console rear panel in place.

Dryer runs but wont auto shut off

On auto dry cycles, the cycle is controlled by moisture sensing bars located on either the rear or front bulkhead, ( visible inside dryer ) if the moisture sensor bars are shorted together (normally by wet clothing) the dryer will continue to run. If the dryer continues to run when the clothes are plenty dry, check and see if there is anything stuck between the sensor bars, (sometimes a metal sequin will cause this) or see if they are damaged. If not, you may have a problem with a timer contact, if the timer advances and stops moving at the same spot each time, I would suspect the timer. If this is an EvenHeat dryer, examine the control board located to the right of the timer in the control panel, for any burned components. Hope this helps.

I imagine this has got an electronic timer ? If so then it's probably the timer board that's faulty.
