SOURCE: OTR microwave turntable won't rotate

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

If not, please post your brand and model.

It's probably the motor, but possibly the coupler.

One quick check is to remove the turntable and support / roller ring and try to turn the coupler. It should be a little hard to get started, then you should hear a whirring sound, not a clicking or grinding, which would indicate a bad motor.

If the coupler turns loosely with no resistance, then it's probably bad.

Here is my text on replacing couplers, which had steps which are necessary when replacing motors. Note that if yours is a built-in model, ignore the part about turning it on its side *grin*

NOTES ON REPLACING TURNTABLE COUPLERS

Copyright 2007 by William E. Miller - MicrowaveDisplay.com

UNPLUG THE OVEN FROM THE WALL FIRST OR YOU WILL EXPOSE YOURSELF TO LETHAL VOLTAGES!

Note that I am not encouraging you to work on electrical items if you are not qualified, and I assume no liability for any consequences of your decision to do so.

When replacing the turntable coupler on most models, it is necessary to loosen or remove the screws that mount the turntable motor to the bottom of the chassis.

It is usually easier to do this with the microwave oven on its right (heaviest) side because you will need two hands for alignment.

Be sure to put a towel or similar cushion on the work surface to avoid scratching the oven wrapper (oven cover) or the work surface.

It is not necessary to remove the wrapper or the wires from the turntable motor itself, but you may need to remove a small metal duct covering the turntable motor if your oven has one.

It should only be held on by one or two screws.

Although a broken coupler may come out easily or even fall out, the new coupler will not go in without at least loosening the turntable motor.

Look at the hole in the new coupler. You'll notice it has (most do have) a flat side to it. That flat side will line up with the flat side on the motor shaft.

When the old coupler is out and the motor is loose, you can ease the new coupler in the hole with one hand while turning the coupler very slightly back and forth as you gently push the motor toward it. Do not force the part in.

When the coupler has mated properly with the motor, you should feel it go in.

Be sure it's right, or you may break the new coupler or bend the mounting ears of the motor when you attempt to tighten the screws.

Reassemble in reverse order.

It's usually probably a failed turntable motor, but you should double-check the coupler, too.

Chances are that it is not actually microwaving, but that can be checked by placing a small cup of water inside.

Overall, though, it's not a good idea to run it if it's not working right.

This problem is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

SOURCE: Microwave turns on, but no heat or turntable movement

The problem is that the magnatron is not getting power. Chance is that if could be a bolwn fuse inside the unit. If the fuse don't fix it then that leaves the charging diode, capacitor or the magnatron, or high voltage xformer of which without technical epertize I would not recomend attempting to replace. good luck

Hi - Possibilities of the turntable not spinning are either it is turned off, damaged or the support itself is damaged as well. Confirm that the power supply is not faulty or defective. Contact a professional to move forward accurately.

the unit inside the microwave that heats food, called the "magnetron" has gone bad or the circuits that power the magnetron have failed. if its under warranty still, send it back to the manufacturer. if not you can call some repair shops and see how much it would be to service it, but its most likely going to be cheaper to purchace a new microwave since they are relatively cheap these days

Microwave turntable doesn't turn. Everything else

The turntable system typically consists of the motor, the coupler, the turntable support with rollers, and the tray.

Here is a video of how a turntable motor should sound when you rotate it by hand.

If yours is not set to be off via the control panel, and it won't rotate or it sounds like it's grinding, etc., you may have a bad motor or plastic coupler.

To replace either, you need to unplug power, then remove the bottom cover of the oven.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

But if you've recently had trouble with the cooktop lights, then the control board may be damaged.

We regularly repair these control units for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

I have the exact microwave you do (ems8000w), the motor failed and I found this one worked perfectly as a replacement.

The original is impossible to find.

Turn table not turning

When you press the turntable pad do you see an indicator changing in the display?

Do you hear a click when you press the pad?

If not, try opening the door then closing it and trying again and also try unplugging it for a few minutes, resetting the clock, then trying again.

If all that fails, you probably have a bad relay or connection on the control board, or a bad turntable motor.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.

Also, we do repair these control boards in case you need that help.

Turning motor failing

It could be the motor failing (gears jamming due to internal damage or bad grease, perhaps) or the turntable coupler or support may have gotten warped due to heat. One test is to gently but firmly grab the coupler or turntable support and try to turn the motor. A good motor will offer resistance and "whirr" as you turn it. A bad motor will grind or click, etc. I would call Westpoint (see your owner's manual) and they can tell you if the parts are available and what they'd cost. Other listings seems to indicate this is an 800W microwave. And I would bet that parts may not be easily available. The turntable can usually be replaced from the bottom without taking the wrapper off. Once you've found out about parts availability, feel free to drop by my site (see my profile) to get my microwave safety and disassembly texts.
