Question about Dell Inspiron E1705, Intel Core 2 Duo T5300 , 17" WSXGA+ LCD, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM, 256MB ATI V... PC Notebook

1 Answer

My computer was working fine and then turned to a gray swiled background. When I try to reboot, the background stays gray, and slowly a swirled pattern appears. If I get to the point where the Dell logo appears, I have thin green or blue vertical lines sporadically going down in the background. Is there an easy fix?

I tried to update the graphics driver, but no success. It will now boot in safe mode only.

May be this is a problem of your Graphics Drivers. Try to have your Graphics Drivers updated.
You can get your all updated drivers from this link. Please select your correct Operating System (XP/Vista/7) to have all the drivers that support your Laptop model. To have the Video Drivers click on Video in the given link.

Upgrade the drivers from here

Your computer boots in the Safe Mode means some of your system files must have been corrupted and your computer have been trying to restore the recommended setting for your computer. If your computer does not boot in normal mode after trying safe mode, then you should repair/format your OS because some of the files that help the computer booting normally have been corrupted. After that install all the drivers properly to avoid any problems. I hope this should work the best for you.

Macbook stuck on load up screen

When you say "load up screen", I assume you mean the Apple boot screen (it has the apple on a gray background).

You might try resetting the PRAM on the macbook.
You can do this by pressing and holding the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

So, turn the macbook completely off. Turn it on and immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys until the computer reboots and chimes. Once it chimes, release the keys. Your system should boot normally.

My 2nd gen nano screen is gray except for the bar at the top that shows battery life and menu titles

Hi, this seems to be a screen failure, just to make sure, do you still see the gray area when you reboot your iPod? in other words, can you see the gray apple over the black background when you first turn it on?
You can reboot your iPod by holding the menu and the select button (the one you use to pick a song).
If you can't see the Apple logo, then your screen appears to be broken, you're gonna have to take it to a technician. If by the other hand your iPod does show the logo, you really should try and restore it; this will erase all the songs and configurations but should restore your iPod to a working state, to do this just connect your iPod and while on iTunes, press the button that says "Restore".

My friends XBOX will connect to netflix on start up, however most if not all the movies are blank. (there gray with swirls) I have the same XBOX we both bought Elites a week ago and mine works fine, I know...

This Might work but no promises What the problem most likely is, is the fact that if you stay signed onto netflix when you turn off then it might think you want it back. another solution is to go into System Settings then System and make the disc auto-start so netflix wont appear thats all i have to say

Speakers work fine, then they stop working...

This usually occurs if you have to much running in the background. Nothing to do with the speakers.

Try this;
start button>msconfig>startup tab>disable all (remember which you turned of so you can turn them back on later. Now reboot and then try your media player. If they work fine now, you know you are running out of memory. Either turn on only essential programs, or increase your computers ram (memory)

HP 2600n gray background darkness throughout paper

Ehh, after futher reading it seems, as long as the EBT is not physically damadged, it is fine. So it all points back to the fuser. Ebay for $75 genuine HP.

But for others, just to rule out anything simple, disconnect from computer, and reset to factory defaults. Print Demo page. If still looks ugly, nothing to loose, run the service menu cleaning option, basicly heats the fuser very hot and passes a paper very slowly to catch any excess toner. I have never seen this cleaning option help but you never know. And if your print still looks like ****, you can save your beloved slow printing laser jet, replace the fuser.

Awsome instructions...

PSC1510 & Vista problem

The problem cannot BE solved. It's yet ANOTHER Vista screw-up.

Original Problem:

"No matter what I try - every page from Jarte prints out with an UNWANTED gray
background.
This does not always happen when I print from the web, make copies or print from
Microsoft Word. I ran diagnostics on my printer HP PSC1510 and it's fine.
Test pages print ok, too.
Please help - I had Jarte on my last laptop (Windows XP), it worked very well
and I liked it much better than MS Word."

I emailed Jarte Tech support and got the following answer:

"The problem you encountered is a bug in Windows Vista. You will see the same problem when using WordPad on Windows Vista. As you have noticed, not all programs are affected by the bug. The problem is occurring because you are using a Windows color scheme that uses a gray background color for text windows. Unfortunately, the only work around is to specify white as the background color to use for text windows. Hopefully, Microsoft will correct the problem in a future Windows Vista service pack."

Your computer shuts down slowly because there are a lot of services that run in the background that have to close before the computer shuts down.

Another reason that it will be slow is because of some programs that stay in residence have to close too.

Running defrag and scandisk will sometimes speed up startup and shutdown.
