Question about Canon PIXMA MX310 All-In-One Printer

3 Answers

I removed the ink cartridges from a Canon MP780 in order to transport it. I made the mistake of plugging in and turning on the printer after the move, without first putting back the ink cartridges. The printer moved the printhead all the way to the right and then turned off. Now the printer won't turn on and I can't move the printhead back to the middle to put the ink cartridges back in.

It appears to be locked in position. I know most printers you can move it but not this one. If I pull any harder, something is going to break. There has to be some way to unlock the printhead.

I don't know if you received my comment but here it is. I can't move the printhead. I know you can with most printers but with this one, Canon MP780, it appears to be locked in the far right posistion. If I pull on it any harder, I'm afraid something is going to break.

The only response I've had is to manually move the printhead and it won't move. Can anyone tell me how to unlock it?

Holding the On/Off button while plugging in the power cord does nothing. Pressing the reset button doesn't help. The PDF shows how to remove the printhead while it is centered. The whole problem is that I can't move it from the far right to get it centered.

Remove the printer from the PC, Now remove the covers and manually turn the cartridge /head unit carriage to bring the unit to the center of the printer. Now you can replace the ink cartridges and close.
Now remove printer and un-install the drivers from the PC, reinstall the drivers and then connect the printer to be detected and installed back.
Now the ink levels must show up and the printer would have reset.

Remove the cord..and press the power button and insert the cord.. while you keep the power button pressed..
when it gets back ..it should move the print head from side to side...if it does nothing press the reset button while you keep that power one pressed..

You should be able to pull the printhead by hand to a position to be able to put cartridge in

My canon pixma mp780 printer is giving the message "wrong cartridge". I did have a non canon ink cartridge in there, but now the cartridges are all canon, and I am still getting the "wrong cartridge"...

1. Remove the front printer cover.
2. Then take out the ink.
3. Next pull up the gray lever and take out the printer head.
4. Now go to the sink and start running the hot water. Then slowly and gently run the hot water over the metal part of the printer head. Use a soft tissue and gently clean the dry ink out.
5. Now dry the printer header with a soft cloth and wait for it to dry before placing it back into the printer.
6. Turn on your printer and see if it works now.

Hi, How do i check ink levels of canon pixma mp780? How to know when to change cartridges ? thanks in advance. Amit Bhatt Voguemagnet.com

Your Canon MP780 will have the ink levels displayed on the screen.

Also, while printing on the Canon printers you would usually get a window on the screen showing you the level of ink in the printer.

And here is a link on how to replace the ink cartridges on your printer http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8000117601.html

My canon pixma mp780 does not print in color. I cleaned the printhead. It prints great in black and white, but no color comes out...and yes, their is ink in the cartridges.

CANON MP780 DOES NOT PRINT

This is what works for me. Try at your own risk. You may need to clean both areas.

CLEAN PRINTHEAD:

Perform a nozzle check using the Canon software under "maintenance." If the nozzle check prints successfully, the problem is most likely not with the printhead. Otherwise, 1) Lift up the lever above the ink cartridges. Take the ink cartridges out. Put them in a plastic zip lock bag. 2) The container in which the ink cartridges sit is removable. The container is inside the moving mechanism. The container is the printhead. Tilt it slightly and pull up. This should come out easily. 3) There are round pads under which the ink cartridges sit in the printhead you removed. The large one is black. On the underside of the printhead are small slits. The one separated from the others is black. Fill a syringe with Windex. a. Run warm water over the printhead until no more ink comes out. b. Fill the areas where the round pads are with Windex. c. Set the printhead on some paper towels. The liquid will soak through and come out the underside along with the ink. Repeat steps a-c until no more ink comes out, but at least 10 times. 4) Let the print head sit and dry for two hours. Put everything back in the printer. Unplug the printer. Plug in the printer. Turn the printer off. Turn the printer on. Do a clean cycle.

CLEAN PURGE MECHANISM:

You will need a light. 1) Unplug the printer and move the printhead all the way to the left. On the far right are two rectangular basins. The smaller one is black. Take your fingernail or a tweezers and lift out the sponge pad (do not drop it). Soak the sponge pad in Windex until it turns white. Plug in the printer. 2) Fill a syringe with Windex. a. Fill the basin with liquid. b. Let it soak for 5 minutes. c. Turn the printer off. d. Turn the printer on. Repeat steps a-d until you see a small hole in the basin. e. Put the syringe over the hole and fill the basin, pushing the liquid into the hole. f. Let it soak for 5 minutes. g. Turn the printer off. h. Turn the printer on. Repeat steps e-h 5 to 10 times. 3) Unplug the printer. Put the sponge pad back in using your fingers (do not drop it). Plug in the printer. Turn the printer off. Turn the printer on. Do a clean cycle.

Without realizing my mistake, I erroneously installed #3e Y-M-C ink cartridges instead of the correct #6 cartridges in my MP780. It worked fine for several days, then I got a message saying the printhead...

The fact is when you compare the cost to get a new printer to replacing your printhead and cartridges you find you may want to go for a new printer instead. The difference usually is not be worth it.

Good luck & God bless!

Not printing in black ink

You could clean the black ink cartridge. For this you need to remove the black ink cartridge which is present in the printer. In order to clean the laser or scanner block you could use a cotton swab as it would fully clean the dirt. You need to clean the grime and the dried ink present in the printer. This would remove all the hindrances which prevent the ink from flowing. Cleaning the printer heads would also help to solve the problem.

Canon Pixma MP780 won't power on.

It could be that the printhead has gone bad, you need to remove the right side cover and unplug the front top two ribbon cables and try to power up again. When the printhead is locked on the right the only way to remove the printhead is to unplug it from the circuit board. Unplug again while the inks are in the center and remove the printhead. At this point you plug the cables back in and get a new printhead, plugging the bad one in again could ruin the main pcb.

How do I remove printhead?

same as when you change ink tanks...
1.follow the same procedure you use to change ink tanks/cartridges to remove the current ink tanks
2.remove all ink tanks/cartridges
3.the printhead is what the ink tanks/cartridges sit in, the furthest half of the part the ink tanks/cartridges sit on is the removable part/printhead, it is loose so you can simply reach in and carefully pull it out.
