Once you upgrade your operating system, some hardwares and some driver will be corrupted. Try to uninstall and reinstall again the program to resolve the problem. Otherwise, you program is not support your new operating system. Check also the OS require for your program. That is why is not good to just upgrade your system.

I borrowed a Ubisoft game that runs on Windows XP. When I tried to load it I got a message 'Windows cannot read from this disc it might be corrupted or using a format not compatable with Windows' yet it...

many things can cause this one of the biggest problems is updating the drivers on your pc, also, in some cases it depends on what version of windows, you have xp home, xp pro, etc etc, this can have an affect on that, sometimes it may be down to weather certain files like activex are installed, weather you are an administrator of the system really the list is endless, there may be a couple of ways to sort it, first off, try right clicking the install file ( from cd/dvd drive) and then run as administrator, this might help, second, try compatibility mode, it could be you have things that have been updated on your system where as your friend may not, you could also , as said earlier update your drivers mostly sound and graphics cards are the normal ones, give the cd/dvd a clean , your drive might be a bit more sensitive than your friends and may not read disks as good as his, as i said the list is endless but you have a few things there to try out...hope one works for you

HP Pavilion laptop freezes daily and i force manual shutdown

It sound's like there could be a compatibility problem, maybe corrupt file's, or missing start up file's, have you tried doing a window's update, or doing a disc check on the hard drive, go to my computer right click the drive then go to propertie's, click on tool's then click check now for drive error's. if that do'es not work you may need to reformat back to the original xp os.

I have a gateway lb3 500 ancient 98se i tried to load xp pro and it crashed i cant seem to even get a 98 startup disk to work to recover it . how can i recover it to load the xp pro onit

Try running linux on it. Linux will run much better on older hardware. Depending an the specs of the system, it may not be able to handle running windows. Try ubuntu (www.ubuntu.com). If it used to run Windows XP or 98 and it wont now, try checking the hard drive. It may be corrupt. You can find hard drive check tools all across the web, google for drive fitness test by hitachi, it works great. Burn to a disk and boot to it on the older machine and do a full advanced test on the drive.

Radeon ATI 9600XT video card

Try this, I just tested (2 days ago) an Albatron that arrived here with a 9800pro, crashing everytime they tried to play games.
I installed the latest drivers etc that "should" have resolved the issues...It made it worse. Updated everything including the chipset etc.

After driving myself crazy for several hours I installed the Catalyst 7.3 drivers... Away it went fine, tried the 7.4 (same problems as before), back to 7.3 and fine again.

So with Albatron boards and ATI cards, try the Catalyst 7.3 driver located <HERE>

i updated my driver for my hp1220C on XP after a crash that stopped the valuable print preview function working ...(printer worked but was print immediate - -and no tool box options etc) . i can't believe i found how to fix the driver ... you need to right click the exe file [before running it] dj1074en.exe or whatever ... and 'properties' - 'compatibility' click near 'compatibility mode' 'windows 2000' - then run it ... and voila -- i now have the print preview and all the lovely functions back again!!!! crazy!! took me 3 hours to find this ... it may well work with vista -- to select the windows 2000 option .. don't know that one ... at least until HP update all corectly and clearly
