There's generally a special pressure foot for ruffling. I can't say that I promise your machine can't do it without the ruffling foot, but I've not yet seen one that can.

Spray wherever the squeak is coming from with a dry silicone lubricant called 'Jigaloo' or WD40 Dry Silicone Lubricant. It is also great for sliding windows.

What year is my singer sewing machine? AH251729? how do I purchase parts for it, like the zig zag attachment?

The Singer vintage machine site indicates that the AH251729 was made in 1947 in Elizabeth, NJ. For details see http://www.singermachines.co.uk/faq/tell-sewing-machine-age-from-two-letter-serial-number/ .

Look on the front of your sewing machine and locate the model number of the machine. Go to http://www.singerco.com/support/replacement-parts-chart and locate your model number. (Use the drop down menu and locate the group. Press Go and then find the pdf with the correct model parts list.) You can look up the exact part number and order them from the Singer Service Center online.

Alternatively, you may be able to find them at any Singer Authorized retailer. Just look at your machine and determine the type of shank that connects foot to the machine. (High Shank and Slant are common Singer foot designs on older machines.) Get a zigzag foot for Singer machines with that design. (If they don't have that, you can probably get a current foot and an adapter. We got an overedge foot and the high slant foot adapter for my Singer sewing machine (purchased in 1969) in the 1980s.)

I hope this helps.

(Singer parts are generally available. I saw throat plates for some Featherweight machines this morning at a quilt show.)

I received singer sewing machine 2623 machine and I do not have the manual. How can I get it and how do I fill the bobbin

Singer has manuals for most of their sewing machines available at their site. For the 2623, the manual is only available as a bound copy for $15. Go to http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals and enter the model number then click Search.

I believe on this model, you fill the bobbin with it on the metal pin on the top right of the machine. With a metal presser foot in place, bring the thread up and around the guide that pin. Wrap the thread a few times around the bobbin. Set the lever to the bobbin winding position and begin winding. Stop and trim the excess thread from your initial wraps after it is fully caught. Then complete winding the bobbin.

(On other Singer machines, you fill the bobbin in place with the bobbin cover moved halfway open.)

I hope this helps.

I have a vintage manual singer sewing machine and would like to view a manual

Do you have a model number on the Singer machine? Many Singer sewing machine manuals are available here: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals . Enter the model number and click search. For example, the manual for the Singer 27 (made in ~1911) and 28 is here: http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/268_27_28.pdf .

I hope this helps.

I have a vintage 15-91 singer machine. the thread keeps jamming up by bobbin area. please advise what to do or what not to do....

the singer machine as a very fine adjustment that can only be set by a repair shop but i would suggest fisrt removing bobbin and looking for thread lint as this is a large reason for jamming as the retimming can get costly i would not suggest blowing into the bobbin as this will just push the lint in to the machine further

I just bought the Singer 1409. The needle is off center to the left. So far off I cannot use the zipper foot. Is there way to adjust to center or do I need to exchange the machine for another one?

If, it is like my Brother machine (CS6000) the needle is set to the left, I have to move it with the button. See, if yours is like that, If not, call Singer at 1-800-4singer Monday at 9am and ask them what is the thinking that decided this so that you cannot even use a zipper foot? Maybe, there is a trick that they do not make clear in their manual. Very strange.
