Question about Coby MP837 (8 GB) MP3 Player

1 Answer

After downloading a playlist my MP3 has been "stuck" with the screen saying "Update DB" - it's been 30 minutes. I cannot get it to turn off or do anything.

I had this same problem. I hit the reset button with a paperclick, it reset, but became frozen logging on. Coby said I may have loaded a bad MP3 file on it. Hence, I ran three different programs to fix and repair my files, got a new MP837 and the same thing happened. Pieces of &^%$#. Don't bother calling Coby, they don't care and can't help!!!

Wont work!

Sounds like a DB corruption. First, back up your songs if you don't already have a back up. You can do this by connecting the Philips to the PC and back up your songs by double-clicking on My Computer, double-clicking on the Philips icon (some computers may not say "Philips" - they will call the mp3 player a "Removable Drive"), and double-clicking the music folder. Create a temporary folder on your desktop, and drag the music files over to the temporary folder.

Once all of your songs are backed up, update the firmware for your player by downloading the most recent version of the Philips Device Manager from Philips' website (make sure you get the one for your exact model), and clicking on the Update tab.

You should be good to go after that.

Yeah, I just went up and down their website. They are one of the few that don't post their manuals online. Many mp3 players have a "playlist on the go" feature (or some other such moniker) that allows you to create a playlist from the mp3 player itself, but will not transfer playlists properly from Windows Media Player. Other mp3 players require a firmware upgrade to fix the issue. Unless your manual states something specific about playlist transfer, I would go ahead and call Naxa to get clarification on this. Let us know what they say. Oh wait - they don't have a phone number. Try their e-mail support at support@naxaelectronics.com. Good luck!

Have you tried updating the firmware of your Zen V Plus? I've had mine for almost an year and haven't had these issues -- I updated the firmware as soon as I unpacked it.

try downloading the
MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?
