D - Link Router and a switch

A client using a D-link Router and switch. They just upgraded to DSL 1500 mbps. They are currently still having problems getting acess to the internet and it occassionally goes down. Also, on occassion it is very slow. The have about 5 machines connected to the network. I am thinking the D-Link Router needs to be reconfigured. What do you think

Hi,

If you don't have the latest firmware for your Dlink router which is 1.43, please download it first. You may want to download the software here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/DLink-DIHV-Firmware-Download-20625.html

Access you router by going into 192.168.0.1, then look for the firmware upgrade option. Point the location of the .bin file that you've downloaded and that should fix your intermittent problem.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

I have a D-Link DSS-16+ and I was wondering if I could plug the dsl modem in any port on it and will it work? Thanks

The DSS means that this is a switch, not a router. This means that you will need a router between your modem and the switch. Switches are usually used in workplaces where there are many machines connecting to the internet with wired connections. For home use, most things connect wirelessly. The reason why you need a router is because a switch cannot create internal IP addresses like a router can. It can only pass on the IP information.

My current router is rated to handle 108 Mbps, but its only running at about 0.61 Mbps, going by this handy website http://www.speedtest.net/?s=234 My current plan is setup as 1Mbps Where am i going...

The speed test only gives you information on your internet speed, not the internal transfer rate, which is the 108MB advertised. This rate will not be acheived in a home connection.

Hello, Got a D-Link 1005D 5x100 Im having 2 computeres atm, but i cna only get one to work. When i plug the internet cables from the computers to the D-link router, only one can work, please...

Your D-Link is a "switch", not a "router".
So, every computer that you connect will require a _UNIQUE_ IP-address.

However, your account with your Internet Service Provider is only granting you *ONE* IP-address.
Upgrade your account to pay a few dollars more per month, to get additional IP-address(es).

Buy a D-Link Router, for under $50, and connect both computers to the 'LAN' ports,
and connect the 'WAN' port to your cable-modem (or DSL-modem).

I always receive that I have an ip conflict with ohter network how to fix this?I've used d-link des-1016d.

You need to set DHCP OFF on the PC, You see your router and your PC are BOTH set to DHCP. ONLY one can be DHCP and thats the Router. Turn it off will be OK.
Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Component Serives, Services Local, and find DHCP Client in the list on the right. Double click on DHCP Client, and in the Properties window, General tab, in the middle you will see Startup type:. Set the type to Disabled. Hopefuly that should do it.

Connecting xbox live to my d link 1005d

Is the PC's connected to the D-Link able to browse the Internet? Sometimes the MAC Address will bind to certain IP's and must be cleared out when the Router is replaced. Please unplug the power to the router, X-Box and Cable or DSL modem. 1st plug in the power to the DSL/Cable modem until the "Ready" light comes on. 2nd plug in the power to the D-Link Router, wait 30 seconds then plug in the X-Box, power on and test. If a computer plugged into the D-Link will browse Internet then this is the solution to your problem.
