Question about Samsung Projection Televisions

1 Answer

We have a Samsung HDtv 1080i. While playing a video game yesterday just out of the blue the screen went blank and then all we could hear is a very light buzzing sound. The red light on the front of the panel keeps flashing. We unplugged everything including the wall socket and after replugging it still buzzing and no picture. Can anyone tell me what the problem is. This TV is less than 3 years old.

Thank you for such quick response. The red light is flashing 6 times. I don't really know anything about TV repairs can you explain what a flyback transformer is?

The flashing light is giving you an error code as there has been some sort of failure in the TV. The buzzing sound could be the flyback transformer. Count the number of flashes. I'm sure the code will be for the flyback.

The flyback transformer setups up the voltage in the tv. It's a high voltage component. I would recommend calling a repairman and getting a quote to fix it. Many times the quote will be more than what the tv is worth to you however. The parts aren't really expensive, it's the labor.

How do i hook my XBOX-360 up to this tv and get 1080i resolution? Thanks, Mike

You should be able to get 1080i with the Input/DVI port or the component video in ports of the TV. I believe the easiest option will be to set the XBox A/V switch to HDTV and use a component video cable (red, green, blue) from the XBox component out to the TV Component In. (with the audio out going to your TV or speaker system). Turn on the X-box and the My Xbox > System Settings. Then Console Settings > Display and chose the 1080i.

Set the TV Net Command (remote) and the Device settings for the input jack in use (component 1/2). Adjust the A/V menu for the Display before playing long.

Wen you change inputs, you will see a status screen for the settings for the TV input.

I hope this helps.

I have a Sony, 54" Projection Screen HDTV that I bought in 2002. I believe it is a 1080i. When I am waatching TV, I notice that when the screen is mostly black, for instance a night scene, the black areas...

Confirm the actual model number as the one indicated in the title is not HD.

Some of these sets had bad picture tubes that on a black screen or blank video input may in your case show faint curved lines and or some color (red, green or blue) present in the background.

If this is the case there is a fairly simple way to attempt to adjust something for this--not in the customer menu but fairly easy to get at and try.

Most of these sets were KP51ws500, 57500 etc.

Samsung HDTV 1080I-Model#HCP4363W-Convergence Problem

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms
  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.
Your TV may have one or more of the following symptoms....
  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

Problem with HDTV on my Philips 55PP9401.

it is not reccommended for game console to be played on a projection t.v because projection tv's have three color bulbs in them and the conversion is different and if it happens to work it has been known to have burn the games image in the screen after awhile.. usually the store doesn't tell youthat unless you ask them about playing game consoles on a projection tv
