Question about Corel WordPerfect Office 12 Standard Edition for PC
I start up quattro and get this error message
program:c:program fileswordperfect office x3programsqpw.exe
abnormal program termination
and then the program shuts down.
1. Click Start, Programs, Accessories and Run.
2. In the open window, type: regedit and click OK.
3. Choose the following path
4. Right click on the Quattro Pro folder, select delete.
5. Say yes when prompted to delete the key.
6. Close the Registry Editor
7. Launch Quattro Pro
This key will be re-created when you reopen Quattro Pro. I ran into this problem when when I tried to open a QP SS on my hard drive after previously opening one from my thumb drive. Now I copy to my hard drive first.

The problem definitely lies in the registry key ... likely Vista and W7 return a different error code when a file on a removable drive can't be found.
But there's an easy fix.
Using REGEDIT, navigate to the '\recent work\quattro' key and delete it as described in the previous post. Then move to its parent, '\Recent Work', and right-click to bring up its properties.
The idea is to revoke write permissions for that key. Then Quattro won't be able to save anything there and thus won't get confused when looking for a detached thumb drive.
I changed ownership to the main laptop user account, and then unchecked the box about inheriting permissions. W7 will complain bitterly about this when you hit the 'apply' button - but it's sort of a dead-end key anyhow so it's not important that it inherit anything. Do whatever else is necessary to remove write permissions from "\Recent Work" and that's that.
Quattro Pro - at least version 12 and likely above - will now start properly, even if you read and wrote to a thumbdrive during the previous session. All you lose is the "recently opened" list at the bottom of the "Files" menu.

On another forum, I found that sometimes this is caused when the program cannot locate a file which is on the MRU (Most Recently Used) list. Normally, this is a result of saving a file to a removable device, then not having that device installed at program start. In my case, it was on a thumbnail drive. I installed the thumbnail and everything is fine.
I then saved a dummy file on my hard drive, and repeated this with a different file name until the guilty drive/file was no longer on the MRU. By golly, it worked!!!
Now all I have to do is delete all those dummy files, and remember to NEVER save a file directly to a thumbnail drive!
