First check on the thermostat setting of your ref, may be it is set to off or high temp setting or maybe it is on the defrost mode.

next, observe if the compressor is running, if not, then most probably you have trouble on the compressor.

if the compressor is working, then we may suspect a leak in the system and we need to rectify the leak and charge additional freon.

Fridge part working freezer not

The fridge is just the end of the freezer evaporator. If the freezer isn't cold inside, check the rear panel. It is probably frozen solid with no air getting through. Switch off, leave doors open for 24 hours and be prepared for lots of water to come out. Clean the condenser and make sure the fan inside is ok. Reset the thermostat to middle of the range and be sure to come back to tell us how you get on.

Top of refrigerator wont stay cold

The light should go off when you close the door. The fanmotor does not operate if the door is open. If it is a frost free unit, it is possible that your defrost system is not working and therefore building up ice in the freezer section and preventing the circulation of cold air to the fridge part.

GE side by side Refrigerator approx. 8 years old. Fridge side barely cold.

With your fridge, does the light go out when you shut the refrigerator door?
That could be your issue, that light running inside will create Alot of heat.
Also check to see if there is air circulating from the freezer to the fridge side through the damper. The damper is on the Fridge side left wall up towards the top. That is where the cold air gets to the fridge side. If that damper doesn't open that will also cause your problem, Let me know how you make out.
