Thanks for the prompt info. FYI, I turned to spin cycle, open lid and activated lid switch with a screw driver ... I could hear the high pitch noise right away under the tub and smell rubber burning, the tub did not spin ... I checked and found the transmission belt very hot and smelly ... it's like the belt is trying very hard to drive the pulley to spin the tub but could not spin the pulley and tub. ... although I was able to rotate the pulley by moving the belt when power is off ...

Please advise if this confirm problem's in bearings ... as part #2 shown in

Most probably the bearings heating, which in turn heats the rubber seals and causes the belt to slip.
If there is no noise of metal on metal, you may be able to grease the bearings to get some more life out of them.
Taking the drum out is not an easy job though.

Yes, it still seems to be the bearings.
It you look at diagram N° 7, TUB at the link you posted, you will see them.
Take the thing to bits and check if the bearing are still stiff or turn irregularly with your fingers. WD 40 if they are, if they turn more freely and little or no rust colours the WD 40, then slightly heat some heavy oil in a pan, put in the bearings until they reach the same temperature as the oil then leave to cool.
This should prolong their life for a while !
However, if the seals are leaking, you will have to get a bearing kit.

Remove the back lower left access panel. You will find the drain pump there. 95% of these problems that you have described is from the drain pump bearing going out. If possible, run the washer with this panel opened and listen to the pump. If the noise you hear is coming from there replace the pump with the new designed pump. Here is the pump to order. To replace the pump, tilt the washer back and remove the belt, then remove the two hoses from the pump and then the three screws that hold the pump on. If the pump is not the problem, post back to me.

Maytag washer makes loud grinding noise during the spin cycle

if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.

The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance

High pitched buzz/whine during wash cycle only, spin fine

1) Make sure valve is open all the way 2) some machines have a screen inside of the hose hook up which could be clogged. 3) last check to see if it is the hot or cold by switch your selector switch on your machine to hot then cold. If one of these positions eliminate the noise then the valve in the machine is bad.

Burning smell + Screeching sound but Belt is not the cause, then WHAT is?

A lot of people may be searching for help with horrible sounds and burned belts for Maytag and Admiral washers only a few years old from Home Depot etc. They used a cheap pump that has a corrugated sheetmetal ring that holds the bearings. Well as it runs the vibration and friction cause it to slip down and grind on the pulley as well as not turn easily. If you put the washer on it's back and turn the small pulley and it turns with a gritty feel or you can actually see a loose metal collar type ring thing that looks like a cookie cutte; then you have a bad pump.

There is a small access panel on the back of the washer. Three screws and two spring clips on the hoses and you're done (use big pliers on the hoses). Put the belt back on (just push motor to one side, it's not tight), then check for leaks and reinstall the cover. VOILA! You can find the pump on ebay for $25 or your local GE parts dealers for $50.

"howling" noise during spin cycle (still there after changing burned off belt)

Travioso, there was two service flashes out on this model concerning the seal and bearing which means they had an issue with this washer. The howling noise you are hearing is the bearing and will need the new designed triple seal and bearing kit. This should be covered under your warranty, I believe it is 5 years. The numbers for the service flashes are TDL-0048A-B. Call Maytag and inquire about these service flashes, these should be covered. Catriver.
