Question about GPS

2 Answers

I purchased a Garmin nuvi 1390T for my trip to Florida this past October which proved to be very helpful for not only in mapping the trip but for finding motels etc. I have not used the unit since then until this week and find that the unit does not show a conection using the external power source cord provide with the unit when plugged into my automobile aux power outlet. A signal indicating "external power is lost" appears. Could you explain what to do with the unit? Walter Kyllonen

The problem is not the fuse. The aux power works for oter applications. I have tried using the external power cord in two vehicles to no avail. I supect an internal problem with the GPS.

If you have the satnav plugged into the cigarette lighter socket and there's no power reaching the satnav it's possible that the fuse in the charger has blown.

First you need to check that the cigarette lighter socket is working but I assume you've done that. Then to check the fuse in the charger unscrew the ring at the end of the plug that goes in the cigarette lighter socket. The plug will come apart and you'll see the fuse. Be careful not to lose the silver nipple at the end of the plug. Replace the fuse and it should solve the problem. Also make sure the mini USB plug is fully pushed into the back of the satnav as this can sometimes cause problems. Even though it feels fully pushed in it may not be. Hopefully this will solve your problelm. If not you might need a new charger.

It's not good to let the battery run down too far in the satnav as sometimes this causes it to be unable to hold a charge again so if you don't get the charger working plug it into your computer and let it charge from it. This will take 8 hours approx. Also unplug your satnav charger before starting the car as you can get a surge of power when starting which can damage the satnav.

How to format the sd card for nuvi 1390t

I found the solution on my own. My PC is a Win 7 64bit machine and I was using Google Chrome Version 18. When I tried the download again using IE, it worked fine. I now have 3 full maps on my Nuvi 1390 (i in the internal memory and 2 in the SD card) and can access each one without a problem.

Updating maps on garmin nuvi 1390t. Won't take 4g/sdhc card

You are correct. The 1390t works with microSD cards. While microSDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible.
You need to use microSD cards 2GB and smaller.

Garmin nuvi 1390t won't read or recognize microsd

The 1390t works with microSD cards. Your 8GB card is actually a microSDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it will not work in older devices.
You need to go with microSD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I have a Garmin 1300 series. It has stopped charging. i have tried charging it in the car and indoors but still no success. it is less than a year old. any suggestions?

The batteries in these devices tend to last several years under "normal" conditions of use.

If the unit is less than a year old, it should be covered under the Garmin's warranty. Gather your proof of purchase (sales slip, etc.) and contact Garmin Customer Support. They'll solve the problem for you most likely by sending you a newly factory overhauled 1390T. This means you won't get YOUR GPS back - but rather a different one. Be sure to back up and remove any personally identifiable info on your GPS before sending it to Garmin. Your replacement 1390T will have the latest maps installed on it already. Simply register it like you did with the first one on their site and you're done!

I hope this helps & good luck!
